In the 70’s, I stayed there which was called Kona Village back then. No roadway to the property. You flew in on Royal Hawaiian Airways from Honolulu was the only way. You were greeted at plane side with a drink and a flower lei upon arrival. Great memories of an enjoyable stay.
I worked there during the 70's, when it was such a breath taking magical place. I'm so glad that it will be magical once again!!
FYI, Kona Village is located on the Kona Coast of Hawaii Island. The Kohala Coast begins about a 20 minute drive north of the resort. Hence the name Kona Village. It is located in the resource management district (ahupua’a) of Kaʻūlupulehu in the land district (moku ʻāina) of Kona. It is a good idea to get these things right, because if you ask someone to direct you to the Kohala Coast, you will be given directions that are past where you are going.
My wife and I were married at Kona Village Resort in April, 1976. We restated our vows 30 years later at the Resort. We have returned 55 times over the years. We brought family members and booked multiple hales. It is our favorite resort destination. We were hoping to return in April, but will be fortunate to return later on in the year.
A few years ago I rescued the iconic bench from the surf. The bench was featured in ads during the 70s and 80s
As of today, the bench is high and dry. I hope the restoration crews save the bench!
I have stayed at the old Kona Village,and the new version I find repulsive.Both in the cost to stay there,and the fact it is so obviously Rosewood.See Myakoba and Little Dix Bay (ruined)
I was staying at Kona Village the night of the tsunami in 2011. The staff were so amazing and genuinely cared about our safety and comfort. I can’t wait to book a stay to see such a special place come back to life.
My husband and I stayed at Kona Village in the 70's also and many times after. I have several souvenirs from the village. We can't even come close to paying for a hale at the new prices. Do you think I might be able to trade in my old souvenirs for a cheaper rate??? We're now in our 80's and would love one last stay at such a wonderful place. I also have many price brochures showing how the rates have gone up. But not this bad!!! So sad.
