How do you define 'outsize value'?

Presumably you do realise that, in many parts of the world, hotels belonging to the 3 big US chains are significantly more expensive than comparable alternatives, so does it really make sense to redeem €200 worth of Hyatt points for a room technically retailing for €300 when the Accor property across the road is selling an equivalent room for €160?

They've also got decent promotional offers with quite some regularity. I'm currently splitting 7 days in a city across 3 hotels to get a bonus of $75 from each one of them (you need to stay a minimum of 2 nights with each brand).

I think it's 19 or 20. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it looks better in comparison with the presence of American chains in other important countries - e.g. Brazil, the 7th most populous country on earth, where Hyatt, including their Mr&Mrs Smith affiliates, only have 12 properties, with Marriott at 16 and Hilton reaching the heady heights of 29 due to SLH, Tapestry, Curio etc.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've only ever heard of 10 out of the 54 brands listed. There's even a Paramount Hotels brand, apparently associated with the Hollywood studio, with two hotels in Dubai. Why do I keep staying at boring Marriotts, Hiltons, and the like? I really need to get out more and start cheating on them.

Always check the likes of Trivago before you book anything, you never know what might pop up. As an example, I had a stay last week and found a room with a balcony at an independent 3-star hotel for less than half the price of the basic room at the local Ibis. My Accor status renewal will have to wait until Q3!

Forgot to say that the hotel I found was a lot more centrally located than the Ibis!

jaja ja.. .. Viceroy (?) which is a playboy model (Kelly Gallagher Wrestler) and her rich husband casual hotel program (seems like those hotels do not stick solid for years)
and Nikki Beach (a bar on the beach).

I love GHA, flat out. I'm mostly cash hotel stays now due to other brands' devaluations and it's a great program for cash travelers.

I did a status match about 2 years ago and easily kept it for this second year.

The late checkout has been honored about 75% of the time (availability).

The upgrades have been amazing. I always book the entry room. Anantara Nice (gorgeous, great location) upgraded me to a beautiful suite with balcony. NH Paris Opera also to a suite. Cheval Kensington, on diff stays, to a two bedroom apartment and one bedroom apartment. Anantara Tangalle to a suite with ocean view. All gave very nice welcome gifts as well.

For Europe, my base, the geo coverage is generally great with a few exceptions.

I wish I had found out sooner and just hope it lasts.

I did well with GHA$ promo when I booked stays at 3 different hotels over 2 weeks in Sri Lanka & Maldives. It seems like they pop up 2-3x yr.

Also, there is are inconsistencies in getting benefits via some members of the chain.
Specially, if you are booking via the Amex of FHR program. So if you stay at the Tivoli hotels booked via FHR, you won't get any credit for your stay. But for some other sub brands, you might. And then at times they may not recognize your status because you have FHR benefits. Are some of the properties they might let you use your status benefits, but you might not get your FHR benefits. So it's a massive crapshoot.

NH and the wider Minor Hotels group is where it's at, particularly when it comes to Europe- they have an impressive footprint in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany etc.

I try to book the second cheapest room category and have gotten some pretty tidy upgrades over the years, including what must've been the best suite I've ever stayed in (at the Sun International casino hotel in Pretoria).

But yes, amazing program! My experience on last 3 years with it is great! Always got an upgrade and many other amenities without stress or having hard time with the hotel! The main ones should learn!

The non-US footprint of GHA is significantly larger than Hyatt's. Not sure re FHR etc, the GHA app offers mean that I rarely look at other booking channels.
