WestJet's Newest Brand Video May Make You Cry
Oh WestJet, did you really have to make me (almost) cry on a Friday afternoon? The Canadian airline has this week released its first brand video since the start of the pandemic. My gosh, it’s touching, and I’m sure so many people will be able to relate. I don’t want to give anything away, just…

Meh. There is nothing moving or sentimental about this at all. Amateur attempt to tug at the heartstrings. I was more annoyed that the seat next to him was empty knowing that someone was on the upgrade list.
A nice play on words as I was surprised they would show a Dreamliner flying to Victoria, BC, but a really touching video that aligns well with where Canada is in their vaccination process and how people are looking forward to traveling for a purpose.
What airplane/ class is Gramps sitting in? Don't know Westjet's seat configurations well
Actually if you listened closely to the arrival announcement, the flight was to Toronto =) The nurse thought he was flying to Victoria, B.C., but hes actually flying to his granddaughter <3
This was going to make you cry? Are you serious? It's just typical (PC approved) sentimentality. Save your tears for real events.
What's with the toxicity? I guess you don't cry because you're an internet tough guy?
Yes, Ben, it's moving. It did bring a tear. And I thought the play on the names was clever, although perhaps lost on non-Canadians. So, while most of the messages herein will be along the lines of "you shouldn't be writing about this" or "this content is politically correct virtue signalling" or "only snowflakes express love for their grandkids", I confidently predict that the majority agree with you. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I know it sounds precious but I find this video a bit disheartening because in my family, our grandparents wouldn't get up from a chair for us, let alone get on a plane and travel just to see us, or show any level of real attachment... I wonder if this representation of a grandparent is as common as we think.
Unfortunately, Ben you blew it for me by including the main picture, so I knew the twist ending right away...
oh I laughed out loud as my eyes filled with tears. laughed out loud because you were right, it's a tear jerker!!!
Agree. Cry for what? It was not as touching as the blog article makes it out to be. Besides I thought this was a blog focusing on points, miles, and reviews of hotels and flights. How does this represent any?
If there was truth in advertising they'd show the unfortunate old man having a stroke on the flight because of blood clots from the gene therapy.
It's certainly touching, but not cry worthy. Also, I'm not a huge fan of making old people come to see young people. It should be the other way around. Especially since Canadians can freely cross the border into the US by air, but not vice versa currently.
@Creditian flights are generally fairly cheap on Westjet.... Especially from YYC... generally $80-$150 oneway... AC is much more expensive but if often preferred as they have better aircraft cabins across the fleet
Is it because WestJet refused his refund so he has to fly all the way from Kelowna?
Absolutely beautiful and related to many people that have been apart for long time due to the pandemic. WS is way much better than AC... I stop flying AC due to their arrogant attitude and overprotected by the Canadian Government...
Sorry....it was such an emotional journey for me, somewhat akin to watching the Hallmark channel. Even though I'm a 1K with United, I'm switching all my travel to Westjet because of this commercial. Thank you for helping me with my repressed emotions.
Screw westjet, they are refusing to refund my flights as an american citizen and only issueing expiring credits which i cant use because the border is still closed yet my friend also booked on the same flight last year was issued a full cash refund due to his Canadian citizenship.
