For the next segment of my two times to Latin America review trip, I flew GOL’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 premium economy on the 2hr50min flight from Santa Cruz de la Sierra (VVI) to Sao Paulo (GRU). GOL is a powerhouse in Brazil, as the airline has a fleet of around 130 Boeing 737s, with…

I flew this route a week after you and had an intriguing experience even on the standard 737 MAX 8: there was no working Wifi , and also only USB ports... But they do have Brazilian Red wine which is not bad. I agree, it is a shame that there aren't more food options, I was offered a choice of two sandwiches, one with ham and one without (just cheese apparently). Also, it's a shame that you were one of the unlucky ones with a packed cabin. My flight had a grand total of 5 people in premium economy (with the original GOL seats ), efficient boarding, and lovely cabin crew.

You should have taken an EcoJet flight! Much more reputable than BoA in terms of short-haul...

Disgusting-looking sandwich. Can't expect much from a bankrupt LCC.

Enjoyed the review Lucky. My wife and I are flying GOL (for the first time) on three seperate flights in February. Premium economy. I was able to use AA miles on one flight, and paid cash for the others - all three were reasonable. It'll be intresting to see which 737 we get. Two of the flights are out of GRU - and I wonder what kind of lounge you access for a PE flight.

Did GOL allow for online check in and a mobile boarding pass or did you have to go to the check in counter? I’ve read mixed things about online check in working. Thank you!

You were too generous in your review. This GOL category cant be called premium. Is just the worst "premium" in Brazil.

@Ben, I'm curious about your decision to use miles for this flight. 17.5k AND almost $100 in taxes to save <$200 seems like a poor use of miles. Were the fares higher for your dates?

I actually doubt if Donghai Airlines ordered a seat configuration with extra legroom for the first 5 rows, as it looks like you got the 'standard' legroom that everyone has on the plane. Might be worth finding out before feeling sorry for everyone who was seated behind you. 😉

To be honest I LOVE mortadela, but I would also not touch that sandwich 😉

GOL has their own lounge at GRU which is decent IMHO.

I completed 2 domestic legs with GOL in September and was able to check-in online and get a mobile boarding pass for both (Apple Wallet)

The bread looks good, but that is possibly the most horrific-looking "mortadella" I've ever seen.

The AirFrance-KLM badge is probably due to their strategic partnership that goes beyond just codeshare etc.
GOL planes regularly fly in the European summer season for Transavia for example, even having 'mixed' liveries with GOL tail and Transavia winglets. Brasilian and European summers complement each other nicely, so Transavia and GOL lease capacity to one another.
