For the first portion of my long journey to Abu Dhabi, I flew EVA Air. In the previous installment I reviewed my EVA Air 777-300ER business class flight from Houston to Taipei, and in this installment I’m reviewing my EVA Air 787-9 business class flight from Taipei to Hong Kong.

@ Eli -- I believe JetBlue awards using Qatar Airways Avios can only be booked via the online request form, and no longer have instant ticketing online. I also believe they might not be bookable same day, as a result. Sorry.

So regarding your seating advice: did you notice BR skips row 4 on their planes (Chinese airline, I guess)? This actually makes 1A/1K and 3 A/K seats where you're closer to the aisle and 2 A/K "window" seats.

Did you actually hit 40k elevation? Seems weird when similar flights domestically in the US dont bother getting that high

I have flown EVA's 787 both on short and long haul and I find the cabin and seat to be a little tight but overall much better than their outdated 777s. I just completed a trip where I flew in CX J from LHR-HKG and HKG-SFO and I must say that I was not impressed at all. EVA wins in service hands down, CX's flight attendants disappeared once meal service was over even when these were daytime flights. No topping up of drinks and no checking on pax. The only good thing about CX is their lounges.

Not sure why such a nice plane flies regional but the older plane gets sent to Houston/US. I'm sure I'm missing something.

I think they are still primarily being used for long haul flights but squeezed in for some short hauls before the next scheduled long haul.

Honestly, my favorite part of flying in Asia is the fact that flights board in 15 minutes. I've never understood how it can take an hour to get a slow heard of Americans onto a 737 when in Asia a full widebody can board in under 20 minutes.

they dont fly the 787 to US cities due to cargo payload restrictions and no PY. eva makes a lot of money from their freight operation. 787 also dont carry PY which is a big factor for EVA long haul. there was a period of time when they flew the 787 to YVR and then swapped back to 777.

EVA seems to be operating the 787-10 pretty consistently to Seattle

Horrible wine list and amenities, as usual on EVA
