Hello from Sapporo as we’ve now reached the destination for our winter ski trip to Niseko. I just flew Japan Airlines Airbus A350-900 Class J on the short 70-minute flight from Tokyo (HND) to Sapporo (CTS).

Class J is basically a Recaro premium economy seat.
As domestic flight times can be really short (some people's commutes are way longer), think of it as a more comfortable bus or train ride. And plenty of folks buy bento boxes from their local convenience stores and eat them onboard.
And since I've been flying JAL as a kid on their 747s, they always have baskets of aviation-themed goodies such as model planes, keychains, et. al., which are always fun, and I'm a huge fan of.
I really liked the leg rests this seat has. Unfortunately I didn’t receive the cool keychain with the Elon Musk statue.
Just to add, on your way out, visit the observation deck and any aviation-themed gift shops in Japan. Japan, in my opinion, is the best for avgeeks, with their observation decks and gift shops.
Was flying F late last year on my own and being a bit of a anime geek, I had a series of stickers I really liked on my suitcase during bag check. One of the check in staff noticed it and was absolutely delightful. Found a personalised note with my bag tag when I collected the bag when I landed in Fukuoka along with contact details.
Flew to Hiroshima the next day and had a very memorable last couple of weeks of my trip, and now I go back every couple of months. Very grateful that my Asian background and Japanese lessons when I was younger.

Not related to topic on Hand, But J Lounge at Narita is like standing in a school Lunch line. you have to point at what you want and a small portion of "whatever" is given to you.
JAL Flights from Narita to Sfo are avg. Food sucks,service is fair, 787 Dreamliners are configured to accomadate a lot of people.
Positive? Toilets By TOTO are the latest and very good.
JAL has only one more seat than Qantas has on their 787-9, 20 fewer than UA and nearly 40 fewer than AA. JAL is also the only airline left with a 2-4-2 configuration in economy on any 787, so making it sound like they’re sardine cans isn’t accurate either.
And the food “sucks” on JAL? You must be the chicken strips with no sauce guy.
It's a short flight, but for both my HND-CTS and return in January they equipment swapped to intl 773s with the Apex suites. They didn't have the IFE functional due to rules, but nice little upgrade.
