It think it should be "we've seen"..........instead of "we've been".
This order is a big news though. The A321neo is a very nice aircraft as compared to the Boeing 737 MAX.
I never thought flydubai would ever break its allegiance to Boeing — then again, Icelandair did the same recently by inducting A321neos!
FYI: the correct spelling is flydubai, not FlyDubai. flydubai is written entirely in lowercase. The same goes for flynas and flyadeal in Saudi Arabia.
While FlyDubai is not an ultra-low-cost-carrier it is definitely marketed less premium than Emirates. Merging them would dillute Emirates images (and lets be honest, this is something they worked very hard on despite some constraints). Just look at the planes livery, If I book a first class Emirates flight and they shuttle me in some ugly blue plane to DBX for my connection, I would not have a favourable impression, regardless of the long haul part.
In this era of global late-stage capitalism, we vote with our wallets, it seems.
Apparently, FlyDubai voted for the EU (Airbus), not the USA (Boeing); these days, both on the hard-product and the underlying politics, I can't blame them.
Then again, MBS and his entourage are 'visiting' the White House today, so maybe Boeing will sell more aircraft to the Saudis, soon enough. Glad the 767 line is shut down. (Haven't forgotten.)
Like, objectively, Airbus is knocking-it-out-of-the-park with the a321neo; Boeing royally screwed up the MAX, so no wonder.
And, no, I haven't forgotten the way this administration let Boeing off the hook for their crimes related to the deaths of those hundreds of passengers in Lion Air and Ethiopian.
You are dreaming if you think politics has anything to do with this order.
It is money. Pure and simple.

This is absolutely unacceptable. It is clear that the US is top in Engineering, talent, and business. I think the US Governent should put sanctions on the UAE governent until they learn to behave and respect that we are #1 in aircraft engineering and only buy from us.

The A321NEO is a better aircraft than 737MAX, so it looks normal that flydubai choose this aircraft for the future.
FlyDubai may not be a low FARES carrier, but it's almost certainly a low COST carrier, relative to Emirates.
The relationship is not dissimilar to what we see in Singapore Airlines & Scoot:
smaller aircraft, lower cost, less bling, doesn't affect the "luxury/service" reputation of the larger brand.
Would be interesting to see flydubai start flying more premium markets like London and Paris, if the range allows for it.

FlyDubai has also ordered up to 150 737MAXs so the A321NEOs are for range and larger size.
