When the new Air Canada Aeroplan program was introduced in late 2020, Family Sharing was rolled out, whereby members could pool points with others. At the time, it was made clear that this could be suspended in the future if there was lots of abuse.

This is a neat feature for sure. Traveling for 4, the points add up faster...so does the cost!
Leave it to AC to lag behind in every way, then try to spin their colossal screw up of removing this program for 2+ years and bringing it back as a "look at this great new thing we've done!"

The verification process is a bit much. You need to submit a govt ID and a selfie. Why is there more security here than to open an Aeroplan account?
Agreed. Seems like United did their pooling feature the right way: no restrictions in terms of family ties, no intrusive verifications, and the ability to control the pool itself in terms of contributions and redemptions.
On the other hand, you can only redeem UA operated flights from the pool - but that's a worthwhile tradeoff, if you ask me.
