These AutoCAD renderings look nice. The Yucatan has seen an influx of new 'premium' accommodations. Was relatively impressed with the new-ish Waldorf-Astoria there (really good food, actually.) Just wish the CUN airport was a better experience. And the sargassum gets baaad.
I feel like anything luxury like this within a 3-4 hour flight of the US is a rip off as it is usually catering to time-poor, money-rich Americans who have a lot of money to throw around and can only vacation nearby. The further you get away from the US, the better luxury experience you get, price-wise anyway.

In the 1980’s, on my last visit to the area, the Mexicans boasted that they were flying the world’s largest Mexican flag. Are they still doing so?
I say this with obvious sarcasm Karim; “The further you get away from the US, the better luxury experience”, for everyone else too.
This is a serious question and not a wind up, I am genuinely curious.
Why are Americans flying to Mexico for the same beach experience as they can get in say Florida?
I've seen the one in Mexico City; it was big. Not sure it's the largest 'flag' or 'Mexican flag' in the world.
AuroB13a -- I am guessing you are not American. I am, I will not spend any money in Florida, if it all possible. Anti gay, anti democratic, Trump loving, plus Floridians are a crazy lot. Just google only Florida. I know Brits seem to love it, but I personally will pass. Separately as a west coast American it is much faster and 10x cheaper for me to go to the West Coast of Mexico than to Florida or the Caribbean.

You are correct in your assessment that I am not American.
Many of us have no interest going to Florida for political reasons. But besides that, the hotel value and experience is generally way better in Mexico than here.
Will it be profitable to have so many luxury hotels in a city that is facing increasing problems with sargassum? This year alone, a significant amount of seaweed has washed up on the beaches, to the point where removing or containing it is becoming very difficult.
The beaches in Costa Mujeres aren’t great if you’re looking for a beach vibe. However, being close to Isla Mujeres is great.

Actually this location on the Costa Mujeres is for the most part protected from sargassum. Isla Mujeres acts as a natural barrier blocking the sargassum currents. So this is a pretty ideal location specifically in regards to sargassum.
Don’t get confused with Isla Mujures which is much nicer, quieter and altogether another world. A misleading name/address really.
It looks very beige. I wonder if the interior designers have ever been to Mexico?
