An interesting twist on the “no blackout” rule. I was in Ottawa and wanted to book two rooms. Knowing that I have to book them one at a time with certs, I always check if I can book two with points first. In this case, I could book two rooms with points, however, if I tried to book one room, whether with points or certs, the other room disappeared from inventory. I even contacted IHG and they could see two rooms but if they tried to book one, the other one disappeared. Told me to contact the hotel. I did so, they told me how to book a room, then ghosted me when I asked about trying to book two.
Since I (as a new Premier member) find the math says to use the card for IHG spend only, spending $40,000 on the Premier Select card to get a second night free makes little sense. That said, the $150 I'll pay next anniversary will get me a room worth at least that. So, the card is easy to justify.
