EY has never been known to have a big Central European network, unlike QR, which is known for serving exotic Balkan cities like SOF and SKP, not to mention Greek summer destinations. Cool!
Would love to see BUD next, given that it’s one of the most spellbinding cities in (Central) Europe — if not from Etihad, them certainly from other airlines not from Europe.
Unlike WAW, neither BUD nor ZAG nor PRG have a lot of strong longhaul airlines besides EK and QR. Czech Airlines is on the verge of ending as its own separate brand, which is noteworthy.
Agree about BUD; amazing city to visit and like the other 2 is an EU member state.
More broadly, EY in Central Europe has a lot of promise! Unlike Western Europe, as you pointed out, few strong longhaul airlines serve the markets, and unlike North American flying, it isn't constrained by India seat caps affecting connections. And in the new Terminal A there's a great small hub. Light years up from the real mess AUH used to be and imo FAR better than the experience at DXB
It's true beginning with 4x weekly is a bit odd rather than daily A321LR for a new launch (after all, met lots of consumers who don't know a new route exists because it's not on the day they search for it!). That being said, 4x weekly seems to be a big thing for EY; iirc their other launch, BOS, also began 4x weekly (but is now daily). Hopefully these two go daily as well soon
Likely 4 weekly due to aircraft delay issues. I reckon that the 321LR to Thailand in August is an indication of EY thinking of not taking risks with new destination with aircraft that can be delayed. Honestly, it is a smart approach by EY management.
