Save the outrage and condemnation. DL undoubtedly told law enforcement where to find the guy. They knew it was coming. They don't want him numbered with their employees any more than any other airline has wanted violent and depraved criminals on their payroll.

Being retired Customs, I knew it was CP. You get them as soon as you can. The pilot might also be FFDO so you want to secure that weapon as well.

Being "travel-related" is coincidental. It could have been anyone in any occupation at any organization. @ Jack -- Yeah, I don't think the story here is that there's a pilot who is guilty of child pornography charges. The story, if you ask me, is the impact this had on passengers, and how this was carried out, as that's not something you see every day.

Ben, you should update the headline (and article). Recent news reports reflect that the pilot was charged in California state court not with a child pornography offense, but with actual sexual abuse of a child.
HSI was involved only to help execute the arrest warrant. They probably arrested him in California to avoid the need to extradite him from another state, which takes time and resources. (In my opinion, HSI conducted the arrest in unnecessarily dramatic manner, as they could just have easily waited for the unwitting pilot to get off the plane and stopped him at the gate. But cops sometimes love to get all tactical and pretend to be "operators" even when it's totally unnecessary, just to humiliate the person they're arresting.)
@Ben Schlappig - It makes sense to use the opportunity and carry out the arrest in a secure environment like an aircraft, instead of at home. Arresting someone at home is risky from an officer safety standpoint, because of the possibility that the person to be arrested might cause a standoff and/or have a lot of firepower at home.

Being arrested for a crime doesn't mean you're guilty. In California all it means is a prosecutor signed a piece of paper saying they think it's 51% likely that you committed a crime.
