Review: Etihad & Chase Sapphire Lounge Washington Dulles Airport (IAD)

This appears to no longer be true for connections longer than 3 hours. Where are you seeing these terms for connecting flights?

These reviews are so thorough and take a lot of work - it's a lot of effort to get these photos without people in them for example. Thank you!

Data point - I had a friend connect at JFK just a few weeks ago. He had a 4 hour layover, had an email from Chase saying he could access the lounge, but the staff at the door wouldn't let him in. Granted it was a Thursday evening, so peak time, but they told him it had to be 3 hours prior. They put him on their wait-list and he received a text right at 3 hours prior that he could enter.

It would be interesting to do a post comparing the main credit card lounges - Capital One, Chase, Amex, etc) and offer your thoughts on them, ob various subjects. Like which one has the better network of lounges, the better entry requirements, overall quality, etc.

When I was there in October departing on the evening Qatar flight, Chase customers were limited to the upstairs only and the rest was dedicated to Etihad's customers on the flight to AUH. I think they only do this for a few hours around that flight. It wasn't a big deal as there were not a lot of people upstairs, but just a point to note.

Politely, I didn't even have to read your section on hours to know this could only be a morning visit. Because of the DC area's unique airport situation, the vast majority of passengers through IAD visit in the late afternoon to early evening for east-bound transatlantic flights and west-bound transcon. During that period, all lounges are packed and most stop allowing any form of priority pass or credit card entry. This lounge is legit nice but the avg visitor will not have anything close to as relaxing of exp. Despite your one-off exp, most regular IAD flyers would never say it has a surplus of lounges.

I have visited that lounge - and all of the Dulles lounges. Except for the Polaris lounge - this is my favorite. Although small, it surpasses the Capital One lounge due to its better location (nearer the gates, and better if connecting), the presence of shower suites, and the ability to order a la carte food to be delivered to your seat/table.

I'm DC based and this is a go-to lounge for me. (I almost never bother with the other IAD ones anymore).

One thing I've noticed is that at busy times they sometimes decline PP -- EXCEPT those with Chase cards. I've never been turned away with my Sapphire Reserve.

Thanks for the comment. Was through Terminal A in December and they had the sign out front that PP members were not welcome at that time due to crowding. Went down the the crowded Turkish lounge instead, but at least were able to snag some food and drinks. Will make sure we stop by using the CSR next time through IAD.

Were you sick after visiting the lounge?
I am a fan but know two people who were violently sick (for <24 hours) after visiting and eating at the lounge. This was on January 31st, then again on February 14th.

Could you share the symptoms (without going into too much detail) and what you ate? I had an eerily similar sub 24 hour illness a couple days ago after visiting. I couldn’t figure out if it was from the food served on my flight a few hours later or the lounge.

Rethinking if I’ll eat there when I visit again in a couple weeks lol

Was looking for this lounge today on the Chase site -- and it is no longer a Chase lounge? Chase has no lounges listed at Dulles. Priority Pass now calls this the "The Etihad Lounge". Priority Pass lists access for Sapphire holders: "Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers are eligible for ongoing complimentary access and up to 2 guests per visit at no extra charge. All other cardholders are allowed 1 visit using 1 of their inclusive or pay as you go visit entitlements to visit 1 US Chase Sapphire Lounge, including IAD The Etihad Lounge, once per calendar year, subject to availability." So something's changed. I did a quick web search and couldn't find any other references to this change.

we stopped by the lounge on November 11 2025 at around 8:00pm . we are priority pass members and also Chase sapphire members however the gentleman in the front desk was extremely rude and did not want to let us in and said to come back after one hour and his reason was because we were priority pass members. When we were asked the reason further he was very rude , even though we told that we would call and complain, he replied very rudely that he did not care and told us to go head and complain to whoever we want to. It was a very unpleasant visit to Etihad Lounge and we were very disappointed with the way of treatment. I hope somebody from management will read this review so they can train their front desk receptionist more professional and polite. I do not recommend this place at all and we are very disappointed.
