The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card has recently undergone a major refresh, and the changes are a mixed bag, with some people better off, and some worse off. It’s still one of my top recommendations for beginners and people who value Chase Ultimate Rewards points, and don’t mind the recent Hyatt devaluation (or are willing to…

Do you still consider UR points to be worth 1.7 cents each? That was the average cash value of those points when transferred to Hyatt and redeemed there before Hyatt's chart changes and Chase's transfer rate devaluation. Today, they're probably worth only 1.1 cents on average when used for Hyatt stays.

I would be curious to know who still has not got this card ?

Unless you recently got a mail order bride, I am pretty sure everyone and their P2's and P3's and P4's have already got this card.

Pretty soon Chase has to start thinking about NLL links like Amex to generate more patronage.

Personally, I used to value UR at 1.5 cpp, because that used to be the rate when redeemed via Chase Travel (I know, Preferred, was 1.25 cpp). But, that's no longer a thing (now, it's that convoluted "Points Boost" thing instead, which is far less consistent.)

And, since Chase lost EK transfers; and Hyatt is reduced (for Preferred) from 1:1 to 4:3, yes, I'd say, a re-calculation is in-order. 1.1 is what I'd rate MR, too, since Schwab cashes out at 1:1.1 (previously 1:1.25, so yeesh, the devaluations keep coming...)

For thinking that it isn't too high for people to spend $5k in 3 month for a "mid tier" card is a bit out of touch.

The median monthly income is around $5k. Take home after deductions is even less.

Putting 33% of your income on credit card spend is really a good idea?

SUB then punt. There are better cards out there. There are better ecosystems out there.

Bonus eligibility seems pretty loosey goosey but any guidance for people who currently have the card and want to snag this bonus? I opened my CSP in July 2021 and use it quite a bit. So if possible I'd want to avoid closing it, trying to get this offer, and getting denied.

Those of us who jumped on the CSR bandwagon when it came out don't have this card due to the old "only one Sapphire at a time rule". I plan to downgrade my P2's CSR when the annual fee comes due to a no fee card and then was waiting for a good sign up bonus to have him switch to Preferred. Well, seems like its time...

This whole notion that UR, TY or whatever points are worth a set amount is false, unless it is for something like Accorwhere the redemption rate is indeed fixed.

Points are worth what you redeem them for at the moment of redemption.Transfer some UR points to Marriott with the 60% bonus and redeem them for Hapuna Beach and get 2.8 CPP.

Redeem C1 miles for Aeroplan and use them for a business class flight to Cairo and they are worth 3 CPP.

Use TY points to buy regular priced gift cards and you get 1 CPP.

There are no set values.

Making CSR look better by reducing the value of CSP is stupid. I ain't touching either of them for a long time.

I applied for this and the reserve and was told I was not eligible for the SOB and was given the option not to go forward with the application, which I availed myself of. In both instances, however, there was a hard pull on my credit. It is nice Chase gives you this option but they still pull your credit, unlike Amex.

Crap! I just got this at 75k. Don't even have the physical card yet.

FWIW: I had a CSP really, until late 2016, when I replaced it with the CSR. As I applied for this new one I did *not* get the message about being inelegible for the SUB, and the app now shows a tracker with my progress towards the spend.
