Starlink might only work if Elon isn’t high again or holding a grudge against American or an American customer or because it rains, and he shuts it down.
Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?
As an AA flyer out of PHX, this is what you want to hear from a leader, even if the reality is that the past (current?) administration of the company put AA in such a big hole, that it'll be years before they can fully recover (and of course their competition isn't going to sit around). But I'd much rather get this message out than the crap that had been coming the past few years. If AA can improve like they hope to, it's good for us consumers (both in quality of service and from a competitive standpoint).
Add my name to the Nat Pieper fan club.
What is meant by a global premier airline? The most International destinations? Without planes and in light of rising fuel costs that is not going to happen.
A better premium class product? Ok, AA isn't all that bad. It's not like UA and DL are serving surf and turf and AA is serving Wawa like chicken nuggets. Besides, most people fly coach.
Is it a better coach product? Improvements in the coach product often to do not bring in results.
Is it running a better and smoother operation? Possibly, but that takes investment/money.
What's insanely lofty about his vision? Keep the 777-200s while still doing the next widebody order so you can expand the international network, put the TVs back in the narrowbodies, do some FA training... that's all. United has better international routes. Delta has somehow convinced people their planes are nicer... which is a joke but whatever. Neither are drastically better.
I like to win the Ironman challenge also…I think I have a better chance of winning over AA being the global leader. The fa union will never let them fire or demote the bad FA’s.
Admittedly, I do want to see American Airlines thrive. Real competition is essential. Right now comparing AA to the other big two is like comparing apples to oranges. Nice to hear their vision.
He's trolling Kirby by using the word Premier which is UA's status word. What's more fun than that?
Feels like a missed opportunity to shout out The Air Show podcast, where the quote came from, no? Surprised to not see a single reference to them, I’d think you’re all homies in the aviation journalism space
The delusion is real.
Indeed, it may be too little, too late, but at this point appreciate any and all of the efforts being put forth. If it is hyperbolic, it is also what people have been clamoring for--getting employees to buy in, get on board and improve the overall experience.
@ MaxPower: The below link that just came out this AM clearly supports your theory. It is a cautionary tale for those who idolize Elon. He did not invent these wonderful high tech stuff that you crave for but the scientists who work behind the scene. Elon has the audacity and resources to wring your neck and spin around until you conform to his demand.

Was this new goal the one he told Brett Snyder in their interview last week, subsequently discussed in this week’s episode of The Air Show podcast?
Sorry, I'm not going to join the peanut gallery on this. They aspire to be the best US-based carrier. Kudos for not framing it as competing against airlines outside the US. What else would you have for their PR goal?
Fat Chance.
And Elvis has left the building.
US Carriers will never be premium the way Singapore airlines or Qatar airways, or Cathay, or any of the top 10 airlines are because they have no real motive or incentive to be premium. They come from a country with a diverse economy where tourism is just a fraction of the economy not the whole thing like the case in the UAE or Qatar, or very small countries like Singapore/ or Hong Kong that still largely an independent territory. Those places rely on their airlines to bring people in. The USA does not need specialty airlines to bring tourism because tourism comes to the USA easily. Same with Mexico and why Aeromexico gets away with being mediocre/decent at best and why the two biggest airlines are LCCs. Tourism in Mexico is huge and never ending and doesn’t need a luxury airlines to attract people.
Honestly, I'd just like them to reinstate LAX as their pacific gateway so as to keep prices in check for all the competition.
This doesn't sound promising. Being good is a condition to be excellent. They need to focus on being good first.
Anything is possible… but they better get busy.
Schadenfreude is such a noble emotion. It's also truly sad that some people want to see a major airline liquidated and thousands of people to lose their jobs.
