ICE Agents Will Do Document Checks At MSP Airport, Patrol Jet Bridges

124

If you’re traveling through Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), don’t be surprised if you’re subjected to a new kind of document check…

ICE will be patrolling MSP Airport for the next three weeks

FOX 9 MSP reports that United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be expanding their presence at MSP Airport over the next three weeks, further escalating the tensions we’re seeing in Minnesota at the moment.

ICE is expected to start checking the documents of travelers and workers at MSP, including in the terminal and on jet bridges. This is all according to a document that was shared by an airport worker. The airport hasn’t publicly confirmed this, stating only that federal rules give ICE agents “broad access” to airport property.

US citizens aren’t required to show identification to ICE agents, but of course we’ve seen US citizens detained by ICE over time, so that’s not exactly foolproof. Furthermore, green card holders are required to have ID on them at all times.

Keep in mind that in order to get airside at an airport, passengers need to present a passport or REAL ID, which is intended to prove citizenship (not that it’s the primary intent for an airport security check, but…).

This represents an escalation of previous ICE tactics

As mentioned above, ICE agents have broad authority when it comes to accessing airports. For example, recently I covered how the TSA is sharing passenger lists with ICE, with the intent of facilitating deportation arrests.

However, it sounds like the operation at MSP will be much more involved, with ICE checking travel documents more broadly, rather than with a target on a specific person.

We’ve certainly seen United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offices on jet bridges of arriving and departing international flights, but that’s very different, since it’s typically based on specific information, and is also limited to international flights, where they specifically have authority. So to see this impacting employees and domestic travelers represents a new level of surveillance.

This is all pretty unprecedented, not that we should be surprised…

ICE will start doing ID checks at MSP Airport

Bottom line

As if tensions weren’t high enough in Minnesota as it is, ICE will now reportedly patrol MSP Airport, including jet bridges, to request IDs from passengers and employees. US citizens aren’t required to show ID to ICE agents, but that’s not to say that they couldn’t try to escalate things.

The fact that Americans are happy just letting their country become a full-fledged dictatorship is absolutely insane.

Why aren't you marching in the streets? Why don't you DO something?? Despicable and disgusting.

Your inaction will be the undoing of the world as we know it.

    1. Tim Dunn Diamond

you do realize there are law enforcement actions throughout the world?

Only in America do you have someone that is stupid enough to park their vehicle in the middle of the street and then drop into drive when someone with a gun is right in front of the vehicle and expect it will turn out well.

    2. Robbie Guest

Wrong. Only in America would the FIRST action of law enforcement be to shoot a citizen dead without a moment's hesitation.

Even Communist China - as evil a regime as has existed in history - tries non-lethal tactics first in such situations.

You live in a completely unhinged society that is crumbling before the world's eyes.

If you take lethal action in the direction of any law enforcement officer in any part of the world, you will pay a price.

In the US, law enforcement is universally armed which carries immediate consequences.

This isn't the first time CBP has engaged in these tactics in the US; why is that we now have two cases in MN where people knowing put their individual lives on the line when it has been mass protests - that didn't result in mass deaths?

@ Robble, So you like being in a country where you can park your car in the middle of the road and keep honking at the law enforcement officers, intimidating them and obstructing them from doing their lawful duties?

Obey the law for the sake of yourself and others. It's not that difficult.

I'd go with 10 years, since 2016, specifically... if you still think you're 'one of the good ones' because you 'came the right way' and proudly wear a 'red hat,' I hope that works out for you. However, it often does not work out well for anyone, because these regimes keep expanding the out-group as a way to retain power. This will not last forever. In the meantime, sincerely please do take good care of yourself and yours.

1990, moronic as always, keeps confusing breathless narrative for insight and then becomes indignant when anyone points out that law enforcement sometimes exists for reasons other than his personal political grievances. What makes him so exhausting to read is the constant leap from ordinary policy disagreements to grand historical doom.... The irony is that all this theatrical panic creates less clarity because it treats voters as emotional spectators rather than rational adults who are capable of weighing tradeoffs.

Tim Dunn, by contrast, talks about security like a normal person. He notes that crimes exist, victims exist, and law enforcement that actually enforces the law is not inherently tyranny....Tim seems willing to admit that public order is a prerequisite for freedom, not its opposite.

So what if Ben carries his German passport to use as RealID because he doesn't want to take out his RealID driver's license for fear of losing it and not being able to rent a car on a trip. So what if Ben travels to MSP then loses his wallet. When stopped by ICE, he will show them his German passport. ICE then uses their tablet to see no record of that passport entering the US. They fail to mention that Congress put in that 91% rate because they wanted to dictate investments. There were many tax deductions and tax shelters that no longer are available. Use those and you got an income tax rate in the 30%'s. They were discontinued because government found that they encouraged bad investments. Still, the social media push is for a 91% income tax on other people, not the posters of the memes. Get this.....

Nazi Germany started a 92% wealth tax on Jews, just like social media wants 91% tax on billionaires (or even 100% if over $1B). So the progressive Democratic Socialists are just like Nazi. Try them along with Trump.

and there are clearly specific reasons why CBP and ICE are going to down in Minnesota.
All MN needs to do is stop taking federal money and repay what they got- some of which is being cut off for now anyway - and then the feds would have no reason to be concerned about what goes on there.

Mike, sounds like that should be the process... TSA can and should do their job, no need for ICE to be on jet bridges. Have ICE on-call at TSA, if they really must be there... probably also more cost-effective. There's usually one security screening area; many, many jet bridges. Sheesh, the inefficiency and incompetency of these fasc..

    4. Mike O. Guest

Is TSA really going to question and/or detain every single person who's carrying more than US$10,000?! And there are plenty of passengers who don't report such currency and other contraband.

While it's the job of the CBP and not ICE, they still fall under the same jurisdiction.

They want one thing, stop the sanctuary policies!

    1. 1990 Guest

      Who's 'they'?

If you mean MAGA, I'm pretty sure they just want to harm their perceived enemies.

  32. George Romey Guest

For domestic flights, no. I support ICE and I want every one of these Somalians gone. That being said I don't want a police state for citizens. Not to mention most people do not carry a passport on domestic travel. How would they prove they're a US citizen?

    1. Eve Guest

Mr George Racist, What do you mean “everyone of these Somalians”?

    2. Speedbird Guest

"At first they came for the Somalis, but I did not speak out for I was not a Somali..."

    3. 1990 Guest

I see the others have this covered.

George, perhaps, a little less bull-horn, more dog-whistle, please.

To obtain a Real ID, one must prove lawful residency in the US. Thus, producing a Real ID is good enough. If you say that Real IDs can be faked in spite of their safety features, then a passport or a birth certificate can be faked.

The US Constitution allowed for the importation of slaves until 1808. All slaves imported after 1808 were done so illegally. As most Black Americans would likely trace one line of their family tree to one of those imported after 1808. Would it be your wish to get rid of all ni**ers as well?

    5. DenB Diamond

@ The Other Jack no, you don't need to prove lawful residency in USA to obtain a RealID® card. NEXUS cards are RealID® compliant and are issued to Canadians who neither live nor work in USA. The same is true of other DHS Trusted Traveler cards, which are issues to various classes of persons not resident in USA.

We have plenty of DLs from CA and NY to prove that illegals have Real ID DL. With many of their lastname or first name saying UNKNOWN.

      That's not ID. That's fraud.

    7. BlackHill Guest

      @ The Other Jack,
You're not wrong. There are plenty of illegals with Name saying NO GIVEN NAME were given real ID from CA< NY and other blue states.

Feel free to google "Illegal Real ID scam" or "NO Name given Real ID.

This is exactly what Democrats want so they can keep importing illegals to vote for them.

Also see how ICE Arrests Rafael Andres Rubio Bohorquez Criminal Illegal Alien Employed by New York City Council.

They are committing many crimes, not just being in the US. Like this guy, how did he get SSN when he came on Visitor Visa and overstayed. How did NYC council employ him without I9 Verification? How did SS taxes were paid by NYC council for this employee? They break every law in the nation and democrats and liberals support such lawbreakers for votes.

    8. BlackHill Guest

Lets say someone got Real ID with the lawful status and their visa is revoked after that. Do you still consider their presence as lawful?

Not a somali, but they aren't going any where. 30 Years too late.

Absolutely insane that we are having to "show papers" just to not be kidnapped and disappeared by our government and even more insane that more than half the readers here seem to be a fan of this. What happened to our 4th amendment rights? No searches without probable cause? Did we just throw that out?

    1. 1990 Guest

We do already have to show papers at airports as-is (TSA); this secondary search is silly. That said, our protections under the 4th are limited in airports and certain other contexts.

For comparison, in some other countries, like Australia, for domestic flights, you just scan your boarding pass at security, no ID check.

    2. XenaWP Guest

I am mind boggled at the sheer number of people who go along with this. But then again, millions of people supported Hitler. Humanity gonna humanity, welp.

    3. 1990 Guest

XenaWP, other than a vocal minority of right-wingers and foreign disinfo agents on-line, most people, on the groun, in-person, are horrified by all of this, and know that it isn't right, at all. Less, 'welp,' and more, "all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

    4. TravelinWilly Diamond

"...more insane that more than half the readers here seem to be a fan of this."

It's not half the readers, it's less than half of the commenters, because many of the pro fat orange Nazi commenters are trolls that go from site to site leaving their crap stains in their wakes. A huge majority of Americans are opposed to the violence being plagued on major US cities, including over half of self-identified Republic party members.

    5. BlackHill Guest

You know what is absolutely insane?
The very politicians we trust to provide us with safe environment keep importing unverified and dangerous illegals so they will have more congressional representatives. And even more insane is liberals supporting such things in the name of compassion.

We are a country of law, if one cannot respect and follow our laws, one should not be here in the first place.

  35. 1990 Guest

This is not about safety, law, or anything else, except intimidation and political theater. It's red-meat for Trump's base (attack the blue cities). There's already ID checks at TSA. This will inevitably disrupt flights and be bad for nearly everyone, including the airlines that operate there.

    1. 1990 Guest

We see federal agents on the jet bridges at JFK, but it's mostly for departing and arriving international flights. To do this for domestic flights is absurd. Expect unnecessary detentions. Expect racial profiling. And, expect decent people to use their 1St Amendment right to 'disrespect' agents, then 'incidents' and delayed or cancelled flights. None of this should be happening.

    2. BlackHill Guest

How good is the ID check when even illegals with NO NAME GIVEN can get real ID from NY, CA and maybe other blue states.

What's even the purpose of ID if name says NO NAME GIVEN?

    3. Pari Passu Guest

      100%

Sure would be nice to hear something from the hometown airline, too.

    4. 1990 Guest

Yeah, Pari, this isn't 'great' for Delta. Sure, Tim seems to think it doesn't matter because it's low-season at MSP (heart of winter). Besides, anyone who watches Fox News thinks Minnesota is war zone already anyway (it wasn't and it still isn't), so it's not like they're going through there anytime soon.

Nazis gonna Nazi. God I CANNOT wait for our version of the Nuremberg trials. History will not be kind to these people.

ICE recruitment videos now feature a soundtrack that includes songs and chants of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. DHS is now using an actual Nazi slogan. Trump campaign ads actually used films of the Nazi's Nuremberg rallies. Trump has used slogans uttered by Hitler and other Nazi leaders.
