If you’re traveling through Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), don’t be surprised if you’re subjected to a new kind of document check…
In this post:
ICE will be patrolling MSP Airport for the next three weeks
FOX 9 MSP reports that United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be expanding their presence at MSP Airport over the next three weeks, further escalating the tensions we’re seeing in Minnesota at the moment.
ICE is expected to start checking the documents of travelers and workers at MSP, including in the terminal and on jet bridges. This is all according to a document that was shared by an airport worker. The airport hasn’t publicly confirmed this, stating only that federal rules give ICE agents “broad access” to airport property.
US citizens aren’t required to show identification to ICE agents, but of course we’ve seen US citizens detained by ICE over time, so that’s not exactly foolproof. Furthermore, green card holders are required to have ID on them at all times.
Keep in mind that in order to get airside at an airport, passengers need to present a passport or REAL ID, which is intended to prove citizenship (not that it’s the primary intent for an airport security check, but…).
This represents an escalation of previous ICE tactics
As mentioned above, ICE agents have broad authority when it comes to accessing airports. For example, recently I covered how the TSA is sharing passenger lists with ICE, with the intent of facilitating deportation arrests.
However, it sounds like the operation at MSP will be much more involved, with ICE checking travel documents more broadly, rather than with a target on a specific person.
We’ve certainly seen United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offices on jet bridges of arriving and departing international flights, but that’s very different, since it’s typically based on specific information, and is also limited to international flights, where they specifically have authority. So to see this impacting employees and domestic travelers represents a new level of surveillance.
This is all pretty unprecedented, not that we should be surprised…

Bottom line
As if tensions weren’t high enough in Minnesota as it is, ICE will now reportedly patrol MSP Airport, including jet bridges, to request IDs from passengers and employees. US citizens aren’t required to show ID to ICE agents, but that’s not to say that they couldn’t try to escalate things.
Trump Airlines folded following bankruptcy.
This has nothing to do with ICE. I just like reminding everyone that Trump has multiple bankruptcies.
If you’re here illegally, then you have broken the law. So back to Mexico you go!
Thank you Mr President for helping us be safe again.
He's not here reading this. OMAAT doesn't have enough underage content for his taste.
The fact that Americans are happy just letting their country become a full-fledged dictatorship is absolutely insane.
Why aren't you marching in the streets? Why don't you DO something?? Despicable and disgusting.
Your inaction will be the undoing of the world as we know it.
you do realize there are law enforcement actions throughout the world?
Only in America do you have someone that is stupid enough to park their vehicle in the middle of the street and then drop into drive when someone with a gun is right in front of the vehicle and expect it will turn out well.
Wrong. Only in America would the FIRST action of law enforcement be to shoot a citizen dead without a moment's hesitation.
Even Communist China - as evil a regime as has existed in history - tries non-lethal tactics first in such situations.
You live in a completely unhinged society that is crumbling before the world's eyes.
In America, we expect that police are not judge, jury, and executioner.
…. and that is what all those immigrants who have settled in North America might think Tim. The fact is that anyone who is not a Native American, is an immigrant regardless of how many years ago their ancestors arrived.
If you take lethal action in the direction of any law enforcement officer in any part of the world, you will pay a price.
In the US, law enforcement is universally armed which carries immediate consequences.
This isn't the first time CBP has engaged in these tactics in the US; why is that we now have two cases in MN where people knowing put their individual lives on the line when it has been mass protests - that didn't result in mass deaths?
@ Robble, So you like being in a country where you can park your car in the middle of the road and keep honking at the law enforcement officers, intimidating them and obstructing them from doing their lawful duties?
Try that in any other country and let us know how it goes.
and, for accuracy, the woman in Minnesota did all of those things but got shot when she put her car in drive pointed directly at a law enforcement officer - who did get wounded.
The majority of this outrage up there has nothing to do with ICE or immigration.
It has to do with a complete absence of logic and common sense in dealing w/ someone that is visibly armed.
Do the people that...

Do the people that are so quick to defend these protests are asking themselves if her kids will grow up and ask if their mother's actions carried too high of a price?
Could we see an ICE Airways lounge at MSP soon?
@UncleRonnie
MSP is Delta's hub and new competition will be trouble for them.
Ben - I rarely fly into MSP, but is it considered an international airport (I know there were international flights in the past) - but how is this different than what is done currently at places like EWR/ORD/JFK/SFO?
Because federal agents usually aren't doing this for domestic flights at EWR/ORD/JFK/SFO... but they're about to do so at MSP...
MSP is a hub for Delta. Delta inherited it from Northwest. There are many international flights operating at MSP
Be sure to tell them you are waiting for the day they all hang. After due process, of course.
A lot of you seem to think that carrying this regime's water will spare you from the gulag.
But, but.. the leopards won't eat MY face... I'm 'one of the good ones'.. I came 'the right way'... /s
Most of you are bleeding immigrants if the truth be known, get with the program or get out, yes?
Most of the people commenting here are immigrants? Care to offer any data to support your wild claim?
Halt! Papiere, bitte!
On the other hand, who travels there in the winter.
Problem starts when people use the loophole that says "US citizens aren’t required to show identification to ICE agents".
ICE will start using the loophole that says ICE can detain you temporarily if they have "reasonable suspicion" you're undocumented and you can't immediately prove your citizenship with ID like a passport or birth certificate, even though citizens aren't legally required to carry ID.
Both the legal.

'Just comply' ...*complies, gets shot anyway* ...'obviously, a domestic terrorist...' /s
I'm brown skin. Came to this country almost 30 years ago from a third world country. Have followed laws and rightfully gained citizenship.
I know how things work in the third world countries. Sadly this country is on a downward spiral for the last 15 years.
Obey the law for the sake of yourself and others. It's not that difficult.
I'd go with 10 years, since 2016, specifically... if you still think you're 'one of the good ones' because you 'came the right way' and proudly wear a 'red hat,' I hope that works out for you. However, it often does not work out well for anyone, because these regimes keep expanding the out-group as a way to retain power. This will not last forever. In the meantime, sincerely please do take good care of yourself and yours.

1990, moronic as always, keeps confusing breathless narrative for insight and then becomes indignant when anyone points out that law enforcement sometimes exists for reasons other than his personal political grievances. What makes him so exhausting to read is the constant leap from ordinary policy disagreements to grand historical doom.... The irony is that all this theatrical panic creates less clarity because it treats voters as emotional spectators rather than rational adults who are capable of weighing tradeoffs.
Tim Dunn, by contrast, talks about security like a normal person. He notes that crimes exist, victims exist, and law enforcement that actually enforces the law is not inherently tyranny....Tim seems willing to admit that public order is a prerequisite for freedom, not its opposite.

the rational middle - the largest portion - on any subject don't protest in the streets or block roads - but they do vote and pay taxes.
What that person said there can be applied to a whole lot of people in this conversation as well.
I guess I'm really that much of a threat to your odd worldview. Feel free to keep feeding me more attention, Tim. Nom nom nom...
Take your anger out on US voters that specifically said crime and illegal immigration was a very important issue in the last election.
I'm not angry; more ashamed of the way things are going. Deporting violent criminals is one thing... bullying passengers at MSP isn't that, and no majority voted for it, either.
go ahead and park yourself at MSP and document what goes down. There won't be the coverage inside security that is going on outside. The vast majority of people just want to get on their plane and go.
They have free WiFi at MSP. You won't miss a beat here
The USA is a foe and not a European ally. Greenland is European. Kirsti “ Irma Grese “ Noem can rot
Yesterday Trump flipped the bird and told an employee to f. Off. How presidential. He’s a misogynistic racist narcissistic dotard. Europe should start by selling all US bonds and the majority of Americans demand the government is impeached. Why would anyone go to the World Cup and Olympics when they risk being shot.
Icarus, respectfully, the United States of America is a lot of things to a lot of different people. Our current government is not all of us, either.
If Europe wants to play hard-ball, it absolutely should sell US bonds, soon; however, that would likely plunge the global economy into a tailspin. No one would be unscathed, here or there. It inadvertently may assist the Chinese in pushing CNY everywhere; something no one in the...

If Europe wants to play hard-ball, it absolutely should sell US bonds, soon; however, that would likely plunge the global economy into a tailspin. No one would be unscathed, here or there. It inadvertently may assist the Chinese in pushing CNY everywhere; something no one in the West (or elsewhere) really wants.
As for the WorldCup and Olympics, I expect it will be under-attended in the US, more domestic audience, less foreign visitors, except those wealthy enough to afford it and to at least feel 'protected' by their wealth. Not sure the 1936 Games are the right comparison, but it rhymes.

So what if Ben carries his German passport to use as RealID because he doesn't want to take out his RealID driver's license for fear of losing it and not being able to rent a car on a trip. So what if Ben travels to MSP then loses his wallet. When stopped by ICE, he will show them his German passport. ICE then uses their tablet to see no record of that passport entering the US. ILLEGAL ALIEN! Deport Ben despite his protests and showing the OMAAT website. Oh!!! Of course, Ben could straighten it out eventually but OMAAT might be off line for a few weeks while he does it.
Quite the imagination you go there. I think Ben's gonna be just fine.
I sympathize with the government officers , because they will be vilified by drunk troublemakers
Alert propagandist, always wanting to bring excuses for problems that do not exist.
Thank you for sharing even more outstanding news, Ben. You're truly the gift that keeps on giving.
Ben, this is not unprecedented, it happened in Nazi Germany, in Stalin's USSR, and many other places.
It always ends with bloodshed. Sad to see how the US has become an authoritarian state and it's just the beginning of this spiral downward.
We are not the same as those places or eras. And it doesn't have to end that way. Congress can grow a spine. The Courts can grow a spine. Companies can grow a spine. They might not. But, let's be clear: We are not powerless. And none of this is over. I still believe in non-violence.
Lawless, extremely corrupt Democrats in Minnesota are committing massive outrageous fraud in billions of dollars along with illegal immigrants primarily Somali need to be handled seriously as it is undermining national security and taxpayers money. ICE under the Trump administration is absolutely doing the right thing.
If Faux News says it, then it must be true.
Your masters told you to close your eyes and imagine the world is dark and you're spewing just that.
So.. adding ID checks at the airport (where it's already happening for anyone going through security or clearing immigration per the usual process) is supposed to address that? How?
This is intimidation and escalation - full stop. It would do nothing to secure our border (which ICE barbie constantly claims is already very secure on the stupid commercials they're constantly playing on TV).
Whatever works to get the situation under control, or even to just send a message. Speaking of our version of Nuremberg trials - we clearly need them for the people who opened our border to millions of foreigners during the last admin. One of Trump's biggest weaknesses is that he hasn't done any of that.
Trump's biggest weaknesses are probably his involvement with Epstein and age.
"to get the situation under control"... the out-of-control situation is being caused in real time by the person who claims to be your savior. You guys really don't have a clue. If jefe says the sky is green, then it must be green.
Oh honey. You appear to have the IQ of a snail.
If there are Nuremberg trials, both parties will be guilty. Trump, obviously. For the Democrats, on social media, there's a lot of hate towards rich people and wanting to raise their income taxes. Often there is a mention of a 91% income tax rate in the 1950's.
They fail to mention that Congress put in that 91% rate because they wanted to dictate investments. There were many tax deductions and tax shelters that no longer...

They fail to mention that Congress put in that 91% rate because they wanted to dictate investments. There were many tax deductions and tax shelters that no longer are available. Use those and you got an income tax rate in the 30%'s. They were discontinued because government found that they encouraged bad investments. Still, the social media push is for a 91% income tax on other people, not the posters of the memes. Get this.....
Nazi Germany started a 92% wealth tax on Jews, just like social media wants 91% tax on billionaires (or even 100% if over $1B). So the progressive Democratic Socialists are just like Nazi. Try them along with Trump.
derek, bonus points for false equivalency and whataboutism. No, this ain't both-sides.
Advocating for a progressive tax structure is not the same as having a secret police or operating a paramilitary loyal to the President personally, all in violation of our Constitution.
Real ID has nothing related to citizenship. I’m on pending affirmative asylum (affirmative = not in deportation process, arrived to the US with a visa). I have a classic DL with Real ID symbol.
Almost all states provide Real ID for non-citizen if they can proof their identity
Sounds like you're about to have a rough time boarding a flight at MSP!
Is America great again yet?
Genuine question for the Trumptards, Epstein defenders and genocidal Zionists.
Regardless of your political stance, I hope we can all recognize that this is not a practical tactic that will actually increase the number of arrests or deportations, because everyone will have already demonstated that they are a lawful resident. Your identification gets validated at TSA, it's not like a bar bouncer. Therefore the obvious conclusion is that this is entirely for optics.
I hope that at least, those semi-illiterate Nazis from ICE will take out their masks to check documents at the airport.
If you have nothing to hide...you have nothing to fear.
Shut it, bootlicker
A criminal all dressed up and pretending to be ‘ard Albert, old sausage?
If it's good enough for Pius Thicknesse, then it must be right. Honestly, you guys don't even have a clue which is the "good" side.
Ben knows how to tap into a story that will generate more heat and much less light than the usual DL vs UA discussions.
1990 is going to be a very busy boy for the next day or so.

the fact is that CBP is finding criminals in every city where they have been operating. I don't care who finds them but Americans do not want their lives at risk because of unrestrained criminal activity.
and there are clearly specific reasons why CBP and ICE are going to down in Minnesota.
All MN needs to do is stop taking federal money and repay what they got- some of which is being cut off for now anyway - and then the feds would have no reason to be concerned about what goes on there.
A whole lot of taxpayers in other states are not interested in seeing money being sent to MN only for it to be sent out of the country for whatever reason.
Tim, Delta is gonna be disrupted by this; I guess you're more MAGA, than pro-Delta. Wild.
Absolutely Tim and yes 1990 …. you are both excellent click-bait commentators, Ben, must luv you both …. :-)
If our 'engagement' on here benefits Ben, that makes me smile.
Spot on.
MN is a donor state. They sent in $44b more than they received in return. If anything, the Feds should be cutting refund checks.
Pari, taxation without representation was kinda how 1776 started... I'd prefer a more peaceful settling of differences, and for our Congress to start to have a spine again.
Just when we thought Tim couldn't get any more insufferable or toxic...
STFU 1990. You post more than Russian Bots on X!!
Aww, thanks for the extra attention.
Luv your straight talking Ronnie …. :-)
Nazis gonna Nazi. God I CANNOT wait for our version of the Nuremberg trials. History will not be kind to these people.
you have a very smooth brain
You’re in a cult. Get help
Comparing document checks to what led to the Nuremberg trials shows horrific TDS-induced hypocrisy at best and severe mental illness at worst.
Aren’t these the same folks that wanted vaccine passports and to have camps for unvaxxed?
Aren’t there reports of somalis flying with absurd amounts of cash abroad?
You’re in a cult. Get help.
ICE recruitment videos now feature a soundtrack that includes songs and chants of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers. DHS is now using an actual Nazi slogan. Trump campaign ads actually used films of the Nazi's Nuremberg rallies. Trump has used slogans uttered by Hitler and other Nazi leaders.
Hitler was vegetarian as well, so clearly all vegetarians are also Nazis.
NEXUS cards (or indeed any DHS Trusted Traveler card), any driver licence from a Canadian province, or any foreign passport are acceptable forms of ID for boarding flights in USA, whether "REALID" compliant or not.
source: TSA website. today.
Yes, that's accurate, but that isn't the issue here. TSA already does these document checks at security checkpoints; therefore, no one in that terminal is not allowed to be there; no one needs to be secondarily screened for a domestic flight (remaining within the US). If ICE were to do this on-arrival or before-departure for an international flight, that is slightly more understandable, but, for random domestic flights, this is just political theater, designed to...

Can't even follow all that. I was simply correcting an error in Ben's post, which described ID requirements incorrectly.
Thanks again for harping on a non-issue.
1990, the more you blather on explaining for Ben, the more people are going to come to the obvious conclusion. Furthermore, it has nothing whatsoever to do with aiding Ben’s, click count.
If a bird looks like a duck, flies like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, the chances are that it is a duck, yes?
In short 1990, think on.
Aero, as DenB said: "Can't even follow all that." LOL.
It's still winter... shouldn't MSP be focused on de-ICE-ing?
In the case of MSP, it's a necessary thing to do. The listless, yet corrupt, political leaders in the Twin Cities have forced this. And, I'm sure that ICE will indeed find criminal behavior. I just hope that those who are arrested will be joined by the local clown known as Tampon Tim and that Somali chick who does the dirty with her brother.
How very "show me the man, and I'll find you the crime" of you...
"How very "show me the man, and I'll find you the crime" of you..."
No, that was the last administration.
So the solution is to bring in Trump’s trigger-happy, poorly trained and barely vetted personal goon squad?
chasgoose, yeah, clearly, it's a horrible idea, and rabid-partisans or foreign dis-info-agents eat this slop up. The more we hate each other, the better for those who seek to retain power through chaos.
So dumb. God forbid the law be enforced. No, let's not have borders. Although the PRC (whom I'm sure you love) wouldn't tolerate any of these "undocumented" aliens in their country.
Total BS
You are such a fool.
What a typically leftist comment. You know nothing about me, can't argue why I'm wrong, so you go with a random insult. And, I'm confident that you feel great about it....like you really got me! Someone who is so simple as to think they're a genius.
God forbid we support following the law. No, anarchy is better. That's your side's viewpoint. I do not that nobody here argues that my comments regarding certain Minnesota pols is inaccurate. Because it's not.
Agents on jet bridges for arriving and departing flights have more to do with taking out currency that's equivalent to US$10,000 or more as it could be used for money laundering, fund terrorism operations and for arriving flights usually arriving from high drug traffic points where drugs could be smuggled especially internally.

While you surely have heard of "Locked Up Abroad" on Nat Geo, there's this other show I enjoy "Catching A Smuggler". It shows you operations at multiple border crossings such as land, sea, and airports as well as mail and parcels that could potentially carry drugs and other smuggled items; people are really creative on how they smuggle things! And as an avgeek like everyone on here, it shows you the behind the scenes at airports that you don't regularly get to see.
Wouldn't such currency be found during security screening (TSA)? Seems more like you've fallen for the conspiracy theory, less so the reality...
TSA is security, not law enforcement. So they can't legally seize cash unlike CBP and HSI.
But they can detain you if they suspect the cash is being used for illegal activity.
Mike, sounds like that should be the process... TSA can and should do their job, no need for ICE to be on jet bridges. Have ICE on-call at TSA, if they really must be there... probably also more cost-effective. There's usually one security screening area; many, many jet bridges. Sheesh, the inefficiency and incompetency of these fasc..
Is TSA really going to question and/or detain every single person who's carrying more than US$10,000?! And there are plenty of passengers who don't report such currency and other contraband.
While it's the job of the CBP and not ICE, they still fall under the same jurisdiction.
They want one thing, stop the sanctuary policies!
Who's 'they'?
If you mean MAGA, I'm pretty sure they just want to harm their perceived enemies.
For domestic flights, no. I support ICE and I want every one of these Somalians gone. That being said I don't want a police state for citizens. Not to mention most people do not carry a passport on domestic travel. How would they prove they're a US citizen?
Mr George Racist, What do you mean “everyone of these Somalians”?
"At first they came for the Somalis, but I did not speak out for I was not a Somali..."
I see the others have this covered.
George, perhaps, a little less bull-horn, more dog-whistle, please.
To obtain a Real ID, one must prove lawful residency in the US. Thus, producing a Real ID is good enough. If you say that Real IDs can be faked in spite of their safety features, then a passport or a birth certificate can be faked.

The US Constitution allowed for the importation of slaves until 1808. All slaves imported after 1808 were done so illegally. As most Black Americans would likely trace one line of their family tree to one of those imported after 1808. Would it be your wish to get rid of all ni**ers as well?
@ The Other Jack no, you don't need to prove lawful residency in USA to obtain a RealID® card. NEXUS cards are RealID® compliant and are issued to Canadians who neither live nor work in USA. The same is true of other DHS Trusted Traveler cards, which are issues to various classes of persons not resident in USA.
We have plenty of DLs from CA and NY to prove that illegals have Real ID DL. With many of their lastname or first name saying UNKNOWN.
That's not ID. That's fraud.
@ The Other Jack,
You're not wrong. There are plenty of illegals with Name saying NO GIVEN NAME were given real ID from CA< NY and other blue states.

They are committing many crimes, not just being in the US. Like this guy, how did he get SSN when he came on Visitor Visa and overstayed. How did NYC council employ him without I9 Verification? How did SS taxes were paid by NYC council for this employee? They break every law in the nation and democrats and liberals support such lawbreakers for votes.
Lets say someone got Real ID with the lawful status and their visa is revoked after that. Do you still consider their presence as lawful?
Not a somali, but they aren't going any where. 30 Years too late.
Excellent news, about time.
Aren't you concerned, you know, as an importer/exporter of latex, potato chips, corn, and long matches?
Absolutely insane that we are having to "show papers" just to not be kidnapped and disappeared by our government and even more insane that more than half the readers here seem to be a fan of this. What happened to our 4th amendment rights? No searches without probable cause? Did we just throw that out?
We do already have to show papers at airports as-is (TSA); this secondary search is silly. That said, our protections under the 4th are limited in airports and certain other contexts.
For comparison, in some other countries, like Australia, for domestic flights, you just scan your boarding pass at security, no ID check.
I am mind boggled at the sheer number of people who go along with this. But then again, millions of people supported Hitler. Humanity gonna humanity, welp.
XenaWP, other than a vocal minority of right-wingers and foreign disinfo agents on-line, most people, on the groun, in-person, are horrified by all of this, and know that it isn't right, at all. Less, 'welp,' and more, "all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
"...more insane that more than half the readers here seem to be a fan of this."
It's not half the readers, it's less than half of the commenters, because many of the pro fat orange Nazi commenters are trolls that go from site to site leaving their crap stains in their wakes. A huge majority of Americans are opposed to the violence being plagued on major US cities, including over half of self-identified Republic party members.
You know what is absolutely insane?
The very politicians we trust to provide us with safe environment keep importing unverified and dangerous illegals so they will have more congressional representatives. And even more insane is liberals supporting such things in the name of compassion.
We are a country of law, if one cannot respect and follow our laws, one should not be here in the first place.
This is not about safety, law, or anything else, except intimidation and political theater. It's red-meat for Trump's base (attack the blue cities). There's already ID checks at TSA. This will inevitably disrupt flights and be bad for nearly everyone, including the airlines that operate there.
We see federal agents on the jet bridges at JFK, but it's mostly for departing and arriving international flights. To do this for domestic flights is absurd. Expect unnecessary detentions. Expect racial profiling. And, expect decent people to use their 1St Amendment right to 'disrespect' agents, then 'incidents' and delayed or cancelled flights. None of this should be happening.
How good is the ID check when even illegals with NO NAME GIVEN can get real ID from NY, CA and maybe other blue states.
What's even the purpose of ID if name says NO NAME GIVEN?
100%
Sure would be nice to hear something from the hometown airline, too.
Yeah, Pari, this isn't 'great' for Delta. Sure, Tim seems to think it doesn't matter because it's low-season at MSP (heart of winter). Besides, anyone who watches Fox News thinks Minnesota is war zone already anyway (it wasn't and it still isn't), so it's not like they're going through there anytime soon.
