This spring, unusual airline startup Global Airlines operated its very first Airbus A380 flights with passengers. Not much has happened with the whale jet since then, as the plane remained parked for several weeks. However, there’s an interesting update…
In this post:
Global Airlines A380 put into storage in Tarbes
On May 26, 2025, the Global Airlines A380 with the registration code 9H-GLOBL was flown to Dresden, Germany (DRS), after completing its two transatlantic journeys. Yesterday, July 16, 2025, the same jet operated the 1hr50min flight to Tarbes, France (LDE).

So, why was the A380 moved from Dresden to Tarbes? The plane is now being parked there, until it is ready to undergo heavy maintenance. Per an Instagram post from Global Airlines, here’s how the company explains it:
After completing the latest maintenance in Dresden, 9H-GLOBL will be heading to Tarbes to park until it is time to head off to the next stage of heavy maintenance.
In recent months the first Global aircraft has crossed the Atlantic multiple times, visited New York, Berlin, Barcelona, Manchester, Glasgow and London, carried its first paying passengers and shown how incredible the A380 is in so many ways.
It’s always great to see her in the sky and it won’t be long before she is up in the clouds once again on the way to the next adventure.
Can Global Airlines afford this maintenance?
I’m not being sassy, hear me out. Obviously there’s a lot about Global Airlines that’s suspicious and doesn’t make sense, but we do have a general sense of what’s going on here.
Global Airlines’ A380 is exactly 12 years old, which is the timeframe with which the jet has to undergo heavy maintenance. This isn’t like taking your car in for maintenance, where it’s included with a warranty, or costs a reasonable amount.
This 12-year maintenance check is a major project that costs many millions of dollars, and it takes quite some time. Of course the timing here is kind of funny, as Global Airlines operated its first flights with passengers just weeks before the plane would have to undergo the biggest maintenance in its lifetime.
There are a lot of questions about who is investing in Global Airlines, but one certainly wonders if the airline has the cash to fund this maintenance, or if the whole motivation for those flights this spring was to build momentum, and hope it would lead to more investors, to fund this maintenance and future operations? And that says nothing of the tens of millions of dollars that would need to be invested to make the plane’s cabins more competitive with global standards.
Obviously Global Airlines managed to raise a respectable amount of money in the first place, since the company outright acquired the A380. However, picking up an A380 that would otherwise be parted out, just shortly before a heavy maintenance check is needed, can’t cost much more than the value of the scrap materials.
So yeah, it’s interesting that the plane isn’t undergoing heavy maintenance now, but instead, is being parked in anticipation of heavy maintenance…
Bottom line
Global Airlines’ A380 hasn’t been up to a whole lot lately. The jet finally moved yesterday, from Dresden to Tarbes. The plane has entered storage, as it awaits a heavy maintenance check that will cost millions of dollars. It’s not clear if/when that will happen, and if the company even has the cash to afford that.
I wouldn’t expect to see much movement from this jet, but who knows…
What do you make of this Global A380 development?
and thats the last time therell be any mention of global airlines
In a world of daily WTF ??? it's rather refreshing to see something that is not at all a surprise. LOL !
@Ben, does this makes Global's the only first class cabin you didn't get to fly (since you started flying)?
Not if he already flew China Southern's A380 first class before they retired the fleet.
I believe he did fly CZ's "first class" when they were flying the A380s.
The trip report should be easily found (spoiler: he didn't find it a "first class" experience).
Your original comment didn't make a lot of sense on the first read, but I'm guessing English isn't your primary language. That's okay. Your English is far better than my skill at your primary language.
I'm guessing you were saying he had not flown China Southern's first class. He has.
It’s absolute genius, purchase the plane to make it look real, get lots of “investment” then when it’s time to pull the shutters down just before the planes heavy check, part it out and get the money you paid for the aircraft back ( and maybe more ) oh and have us all reading all about it along the way.
lol. Mothballed. What a joke / scam. I thought it was going to be a serious competitor haha.
So they put an (only) a/c in service in May that in July would need to go out of service for a Heavy Check. Wow, I thought I've meet some idiots in the C suite over the past 40+ years but these guys take stupidity to a whole new level.
A gaggle of very stable geniuses if ever there was one, that's for sure.
Why do you think the old owners retire the plane and sell it cheap.
I thought I've meet some idiots not understanding C suite over the past 40+ years but this guy take stupidity to a whole new level.
I feel like they got too ambitious with the scam and it became a little too real. A perfect scam should be years and years and years of 'almost' and your name would be pretty anonymous compared to the company name. Now we have vloggers and bloggers and people all calling this guy out and the story is out of their control now
Weren't we expecting some kind of exposé here about Global?
Let's hope this maintenance also includes new stickers for the bar area :D
Thanks for your dono's, I'm so rich!
I’m still waiting to see who is jailed first.
Welp, it was fun while it lasted
Lot of politicians and business owners in Europe earned billions in the onoing Ukraine conflict. This is one of the many ways they launder the money to save taxes
Which politicians?
Lots
Name three, and let is know how you established the veracity of these claims.
How exactly is this a money laundering scheme?
TARMAC Aerosave already performs a lot of airframe scrapping @ LDE, so it's in the right location if they decide to not go flying again.
This is likely just a money laundering campaign under the guise of an airline.
Global Airlines is not a serious business.
