I probably need my head checked, because I can’t get Ethiopian Airlines’ boarding music out of my head. When I’m not listening to it on repeat, I’m humming it… grrr!
In this post:
Ethiopian Airlines’ boarding music is addictive
As longtime OMAAT readers know, I’m perhaps a little too enthusiastic about airline boarding music, to the point that I keep a list of my favorites. I appreciate the effort that airlines put into the little details of the passenger experience, and boarding music is such a good example of that, and really sets the tone for a flight.
I just completed my first trip on Ethiopian Airlines in many years, and the thing that I remember most about the journey is… the boarding music (well, plus the part in the safety video where a guy tries to light a cigarette, but that’s a different story)?!
Yes, the music is beautiful and calming, but more than anything, it’s also kind of catchy, so I can’t stop thinking about it. So anyway, since I’m suffering with having this song in my head, I’m going to torture y’all as well. Enjoy!
There’s only one way to get this music out of my head
I guess this post is sort a live therapy session for me. Up until a moment ago, I couldn’t get Ethiopian Airlines’ boarding music out of my head. But then I remembered the way to get literally any jingle or song out of your head — play Turkish Airlines’ “Globally Yours” phone hold music on repeat.
I just played that a few times, and suddenly I can’t even remember what Ethiopian Airlines’ boarding music was like. But now I also have a whole new problem. Rats.
Bottom line
Ethiopian Airlines has some pretty great boarding music, which is both relaxing and fun to listen to. This might end up being my new background music while working for some time, before I eventually switch back to the old reliable Gulf carrier boarding music.
Anyone else kind of like Ethiopian Airlines’ boarding music?
Whoever understands the Language please can you explain what the initial words sung mean ...for me it sounds like B.E.A.U lalalala B.E.A.U lalalala...that is what is stuck in my head lol
Also I hear this is the video as well as in the announcements at the airport .... It sounds like Muchachu...
Ethiopian theme song my favorite boarding music. They haven’t changed it for more than a decade but it never gets old!
Ethiopian absolutely has the best and most aggravatingly memorable theme / boarding music. It adds so much to the experience, I love it.
I like the old TK boarding music the best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7gOpNLG5HE&pp=ygUfdHVya2lzaCBhaXJsaW5lcyBib2FyZGluZyBtdXNpYw%3D%3D
Beautiful video as well and soothing to listen
@Ben, it'd be nice to read an article about airlines that still play boarding music (I believe that's becoming a thing of the past, unfortunately, right?)
"(well, plus the part in the safety video where a guy tries to light a cigarette,"
I know. It's very lame. They would do well to upgrade the safety video.
It’s fairly new. Last year they had the mime. They have returned to professionalism.
I think the part where the guy tries to light a cigarette is in there as there may be pax who still think it's okay to smoke on board. There were pax still on their cellphones as we were thundering down the runway on the Ethiopian 777-300ER Addis Ababa to Dubai flight. I recall on an Etihad Airways flight out of Karachi an FA stood over a group of guys on their phones and did not move till they got off and put the phones away.
People tend to confuse Ethiopia with Somalia. We’re the pirates. :))
In my view, one specific rendition of the "Rhapsody in Blue" sets the standard for boarding music ;-)
I got a few complaints from viewers on YouTube for having the boarding music in all my Ethiopian Airlines videos lol. It's their music and it only made sense to have it in the videos. I'm glad I finally got to fly Ethiopian my very first African carrier. Would have loved to have had some Ethiopian food on board, but that only exists in Business Class I believe. Will need to find some Ethiopian place...

The same was the case with ANA, Turkish Airlines, Emirates and Etihad and their boarding music in my YouTube videos.... Time to try some new airlines!!
Not a reply to DCS.... Might have hit the reply button by mistake
The original Thai Airways music from 2006-2012 was the best. Always created a great feeling before setting off.
You must learn to live with it in your head.
It never goes away.
Get. A. Life.
Fuck. Your. Self.
@Miguel
LOOK AT ME. I AM THE CAPTAIN NOW.
Haha thanks for the memories!!
I had 4 ET flights in July JFK-ABJ-ADD-FBM-LLW and had this stuck in my head for so long!
You can’t escape it. It’s like a trap.
This one time I looked up “can’t get music out of my head” after an ET flight. Webmd said it was a sign of brain aneurism (and cancer because everything is). I did further checks.
This music goes back to 1996ish. I’ll admit I wish it was Ethiopian instrumentals.
In June I flew Toronto-Addis-Libreville-Yaounde in one go, so 3 flights in one day and I thought hearing the boarding music one more time might make me go mad.
Admittedly, I *loathe* boarding music as a concept: all it does is psychologically reinforce how long we sit, and sit, and sit, and sit, before even moving an inch.
If it makes you feel any better, the same music is also used in a 3 minute infomercial that plays whenever you start up any program on the IFE.
lol. I’m about to board Ethiopian IAD-ADD. I’ll keep an ear out for the music.
@ Tom -- Enjoy your flight! And if in business class, hope you lucked out and got the new cabin, unlike me!
