After all of the complaining I’ve done about my nightmare using ANA miles, I feel the need to report something positive, something that might make me transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points to ANA again.
With ANA’s new award chart, a 5,000-7,000 mile flight on a partner airline in Business Class is only 63,000 miles. JFK-LHR is just under 3,500 miles each way, and since Virgin Atlantic is a partner with ANA, that’s a great way to redeem miles, in my opinion. For only 5,000 miles more (68,000 miles roundtrip), you can take them from anywhere else on the East Coast or connect onward in Europe, anywhere less than 9,000 miles roundtrip.
Virgin Atlantic is an airline I’ve always wanted to try, and although we’ll pay fuel surcharges when using ANA miles for Virgin Atlantic, that’s the case with almost every partner they have except Continental, although that’ll cost you 100,000, in which case I’d rather pay a bit more in cash.
Thanks to my friend Steven for the tip.
I have 4,797 miles on ANA through a screw up. I was expecting to get 9600 miles on UA.
I'll never fly ANA enough to accumulate any significant mileage. Is there anything that I can do to redeem or transfer these 4,797 miles for anything?
Hmm, very interesting award chart. This chart reminds me of the old Asia Miles redemption chart. I find the award levels very reasonable at all levels including business and first class. Compared to some of the new redemption regimes where first class requires 3X economy class miles (simply rediculous).
Additionally, if I were wanting to redeem miles on lots of short haul trips (ie under 600 miles roundtrip such as LAX-LAS or STL-ORD) this...
