This CNN article regarding AA MD80 groundings is very informative, yet there’s one thing which annoys me beyond end (bolding and italicizing mine):
Bishop Bernard Jordan, a Harlem minister, was in a first-class line trying to catch a flight to Atlanta, where he was scheduled to preach Wednesday night.
“It would have been good to know in advance,” said Jordan, who said he has 4 million frequent-flier miles with American and flies to Atlanta every other week. “I would have booked with another airline.”
Now I’ll be the first to admit I’m an awful writer, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned from all of my english/composition classes it’s that everything in your paper/article should support your goal/purpose, in this case talking about the crazy cancellations. It drives me crazy when the media references the number of frequent flyer miles someone has as if it increases their credibility in being quoted. Great, so maybe the Bishop spent $4,000,000 on his credit card, and earns most of his miles that way. It just does absolutely nothing, nada, zilch, zero, or anything else equal to nothing that you can think of to support this article. Besides, isn’t that the most “No $&*% Sherlock” quote ever?
I know it’s incredibly minor, but that’s what brings some excitmenent to my day. Thanks for allowing me to indluge myself.
