Awful: Delta Pilot Arrested Onboard Plane On Child Sex Abuse Charges

133

A couple of days ago, View form the Wing broke the story of how a Delta Air Lines pilot was arrested onboard an aircraft. While I covered this at the time, authorities have now released more information about what happened, and… it’s bad.

Homeland Security storms aircraft, arrests pilot

This incident happened on Saturday, July 26, 2025, and involves Delta flight DL2809, operating from Minneapolis (MSP) to San Francisco (SFO). After a 3hr55min flight, the Boeing 757-300 touched down in San Francisco at 9:31PM, and taxied to its arrival gate.

After the plane arrived at the gate, passengers collected their luggage as usual. However, roughly 10 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers then stormed the aircraft, and told passengers to be seated. Some of them ran to the front of the aircraft, and grabbed the first officer, and put him in handcuffs. Since this was a 757, deplaning generally happens through the second door.

The first officer and his belongings were removed from the aircraft, at which point passengers could continue the deplaning process. The captain was caught completely off guard, and reportedly told passengers that he had no clue what just happened.

https://twitter.com/TonyLaneNV/status/1949610257430487129

As a passenger explained:

“I looked at him and I said, ‘What’s going on?’ He said, ‘I have no idea,’ And he genuinely looked like this was a surprise that all of a sudden there was people on the plane because he had had us stand up, we were starting to take our stuff out for arrival and everybody was already in the overhead bins.”

The pilot was wanted on child sex abuse charges

The Delta pilot who was arrested has been identified as 34-year-old Rustom Bhagwagar. Initially reports suggested that he had been arrested on charges of child sexual abuse materials. However, it’s much worse than that.

Instead, DHS has shared that Bhagwagar has been charged with five counts of oral copulation with a child under 10 years of age. He’s now being held in a detention facility in Martinez, California, in lieu of $5 million bail. Detectives with the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office had been investigating him for several months, since April 2025.

Delta released a statement that it was “appalled by reports of the charges related to the arrest,” and added that the pilot has been suspended, pending an investigation. The company directed all inquiries to law enforcement.

At first I thought it was a bit of an overkill that you’d have 10 people storm the aircraft in this way, rather than just meeting him in the terminal. But I suppose the concern is that if he was tipped off about authorities waiting for him, he might get suspicious, and try to make a run for it, or do something else irrational.

If he ends up being found guilty of these charges, I hope he gets the help he needs and punishment he deserves (to prevent something like this from happening again). Child sexual abuse materials are horrible enough, but this is infinitely worse.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a pilot arrested in this way. Roughly a year ago, a Frontier Airlines pilot was arrested onboard an aircraft, shortly before the departure of a flight. As you’d expect, the flight ended up being canceled. I guess a “bad actor” having the job of being a pilot at least makes them easy to catch, since they’re easy to track based on their flight rosters.

Bottom line

A Delta flight from Minneapolis to San Francisco had a dramatic ending, when DHS stormed the plane upon landing, to arrest one of the pilots. It has now been confirmed that he was wanted on charges of oral copulation with a child under 10 years of age.

Like any other profession, there are some bad apples who are pilots. The reason I covered this story is because passengers witnessing the pilot of their flight getting arrested has to be one of the more unusual things to happen onboard an aircraft.

What do you make of this situation?

Seriously, this comment section is more disturbing than the article itself. I really don’t know if some of you are 10 year olds creating fake accounts or if this type of subject matter triggers something that make you act like this. Either way, you shouldn’t be here.

    1. Tim Dunn Diamond

      totally agree.

      for once.

I do think it highlights that some people are simply emotionally incapable of discussing something as grave as this because it forces them to confront the state of their own lives.

As Ben accurately noted, these kinds of things happen. It is the sad state of humanity.
The unique aspect of this case is that the arrest happened in such dramatic fashion on a commercial aircraft.

    2. AeroB13a Guest

Quite Eduardo, much has been expressed with regard to the pilot but little or nothing about his alleged victims.
There are far too many gum bumping trolls who post herein, they display little or no interest in the editorial subject matter.

HSI was involved only to help execute the arrest warrant. They probably arrested him in California to avoid the need to extradite him from another state, which takes time and resources. (In my opinion, HSI conducted the arrest in unnecessarily dramatic manner, as they could just have easily waited for the unwitting pilot to get off the plane and stopped him at the gate. But cops sometimes love to get all tactical and pretend to be "operators" even when it's totally unnecessary, just to humiliate the person they're arresting.)

Absolutely disgraceful and inhumane from a morally bankrupt society

    1. No BB Guest

This kind of broad-brush condemnation based on isolated cases isn't helpful. Child exploitation unfortunately occurs across all societies and cultures worldwide - it's not unique to any particular group. Rather than making sweeping generalizations, we should focus on supporting victims and improving systems to prevent these crimes everywhere.

Child sexual abuse material is a better term to use rather than child pornography.

There’s too much sanitizing of sex crimes.

I frequently see victims referred to as young women or young men instead of children.

I see “sexual misconduct” used as a sanitised phrase for rape.

    1. Eskimo Guest

Why is it a better term, it's more like a different term.

But agree sanitizing words, that's too much.

Being "travel-related" is coincidental. It could have been anyone in any occupation at any organization. Recently, Oklahoma's superintendent of public schools had porn on his laptop . . . during a public meeting. It doesn't matter that he holds himself out as being religious and about traditional family values. It doesn't matter that he insists on religious teachings in the classroom. Really, it could be anyone.

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Jack -- Yeah, I don't think the story here is that there's a pilot who is guilty of child pornography charges. The story, if you ask me, is the impact this had on passengers, and how this was carried out, as that's not something you see every day.

    2. Pete Guest

He's been charged, not found guilty. It's a very important distinction.

    3. Samus Aran Guest

@Ben Schlappig - It makes sense to use the opportunity and carry out the arrest in a secure environment like an aircraft, instead of at home. Arresting someone at home is risky from an officer safety standpoint, because of the possibility that the person to be arrested might cause a standoff and/or have a lot of firepower at home.

    4. FlyerDon Guest

It takes a lot of moving parts to put together an arrest like this. How could they have done it all between the time he departed MSP and arrived in SFO? It doesn’t add up.

    5. 9volt Diamond

What makes you think they put it all together after he departed MSP? They could’ve been onto this guy before that, and they may have just been waiting for the most secure and safe opportunity to nab him.

    6. FlyerDon Guest

That was my point. I don’t think they put it all together in a four hour time span and he should have never been in the cockpit of that 757.

    7. Herb_Repozo Member

Actually Lucky, the pilot isn’t guilty… yet. He is just allegedly a CP offender.

But Jack, when it “can be anyone, really” and that person is creating or executing laws with a severe religious influence and then “allegedly” caught behaving opposite of the morals and values that he wants to press upon others? That kind of hypocrisy needs to be met with swift, firm and crippling justice.

  32. Steven Guest

Being retired Customs, I knew it was CP. You get them as soon as you can. The pilot might also be FFDO so you want to secure that weapon as well.

    1. Tim Dunn Diamond

again, it he was an FFDO, it shows poor judgment to have risked a shootout w/ 200 people behind him.

If he feared being arrested, his bag and his weapon would have been accessible to him as soon as the plane landed if not before.

    2. UncleRonnie Diamond

Didn't realised you were an expert in law enforcement as well, Tim.

    3. steve Guest

that's just dumb. How many years of federal law enforcement training have you had? how many years did you work at an international airport as a HSI Special Agent?

      Tim, shhhh.....adults are speaking.

    4. Tim Dunn Diamond

adults may be pounding away on the internet but they aren't thinking.

Law enforcement doesn't have a corner on common sense.

If there was a fear of gunfire, arresting someone surrounded by 200 people makes no sense.

adults may be pounding away on the internet but they aren't thinking.

Law enforcement doesn't have a corner on common sense.

If the fear of escape was the issue, then 10 people is huge overkill. They can't even all fit in the aisle of first class and the forward galley of a 757 if wearing their presumed weapons and body armor.

It was excessive and unnecessary force but not surprising.

and, in case you missed it, the government IS elected by the people who aren't amused by the show of federal law enforcement of late

wish it were unbelievable that Timmy's response to this is "he who is without sin can cast the first stone"

Just own the fact that a delta employee did something unforgivable. jesus. not everything calls for equivocation. i know many people find this bit annoying (your loss - i invented it and it is very funny) but surely we can all agree that equivocating around kiddie porn is not cool? yes, agree with tim that...

and we are supposed to believe that a fraud like you that is incapable of using your own name rather than mocking someone else is qualified to lecture anyone on anything about morals.

It isn't anyone's lump to take. You are as depraved as he is if you think you or anyone else has any responsibility for that person's decisions.

Not a single company the size of any US airline has ever embraced the actions of employees like this.

This stuff happens and the sheer size of DL makes it certain it would have happened at some point - no different than the AA FA that was just convicted of trying to film young girls in the lav.

Save the outrage and condemnation. DL undoubtedly told law enforcement where to find the guy. They knew it was coming. They don't want him numbered with their employees any more than any other airline has wanted violent and depraved criminals on their payroll.

what's most important is that you're not mad

    3. Tim Dunn Diamond

again, for someone that hides in the shadows of the real world using a twisted and made-up name, you are as ignorant as your ability to read the room as you are in your ability to critically think.

I am mad that people like this exist.

I don't blame anyone else except those people's poor choices.

workplace arrests are pretty common. This is a story just because it happened on a common carrier which are always highly visible.

Sadly, there will be more workplace arrests for the same thing elsewhere in the US this week.

      You tell him Tim!

Dim by name and lacking any insight or integrity by nature.

Not Tim Dunn once again claiming that Tim Dunn is his real name? Is it now, Tim? You seem to forget how many webs of lies you have on the topic.

Sorry Ben, but your comment just doesn’t resonate when you say things like”I hope he gets the punishment and help he needs”

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Dublin -- The punishment or the help part?

    2. Dim Tunn Guest

i think it would read more clearly as "I hope he gets the help he needs and the punishment he deserves"

    3. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Dim Tunn -- Fair, that's a better way to phrase it, thanks.

As for the show of force, that is the way it is done these days. Two would have clearly done the job.

DL probably was served w/ an order to provide information on where there employee was and cooperated.

He who is without sin can throw the first stone.

Regarding Child Porn Allegations, maybe this quote from the Gospel of John should be reconsidered.

(„He who is without sin can throw the first stone.“)

    2. Dublin Guest

“As for the show of force two would’ve clearly done the job”.
Wrong. 100% totally wrong. Two FBI agents in South Florida a few years ago were ambushed shot and killed trying to serve a child porn warrant. These folks know they are absolutely dead treat going to prison. Many will not go quietly.
Everybody wants to comment when they see law-enforcement in action and in a democracy that’s the way it should...

But the reality is sometimes apprehension is ugly and violent. Because you’re dealing with ugly and violent people.

this is an aircraft cockpit. How many places do you think the guy could have escaped.

Perhaps he was carrying a weapon but there are registries for armed pilots.
If they generally thought there was going to be a firefight they it is fair to question why they tried to arrest him on an aircraft w/ 200 people

    4. Eskimo Guest

      "this is an aircraft cockpit."
      Indeed!!!

I can think of a wide range from a rogue pilot doing barrel rolls all the way to 9/11.

So how many place you think a 757-300 can go, Tim?

    5. JPlat Guest

I know right?! I mean, with over 300 million people in America, one child sex offender president is bound to slip through. And with so many children to choose from, how can we blame the man for giving in to the temptations.

I think it's time for Dim Tunn to take a timeout. Their comments below show how their TD obsession goes beyond the pale, and is truly unhealthy. This is as much as for their sake, as for everyone else. I'm pretty sure there was a rule about Tim Dunn related usernames getting banned as well anyways. In their very own words: "I hope he gets the help he needs and the punishment he deserves"

From Epstein, to Trump, to Delta pilots, to Congressmen. What is the American and Zionist obsession with exploiting children for sexual pleasure? Absolutely disgraceful and inhumane from a morally bankrupt society
