Bottom Line

While WestJet Rewards doesn’t have the most valuable elite program out there, this is a pretty solid status match and challenge opportunity. You can get status upfront for several months, and then with qualifying activity can extend that status by either a few months, or for more than a year.

Do you plan on taking part in this WestJet status match challenge?

Why don't they match Best Western?

@Bill Janssen-- Not sure why they would? WN doesn't fly transborder (as much as I wish they would for competition's sake). Their and WS's O&D markets are pretty much mutually exclusive. Lots of Canadians in the Toronto catchment area drive to BUF to fly WN, but there's not much WS could bring to the table for BUF-based WN flyers.

As for DL, obviously they're not on here due to the JV and coming reciprocal benefits....

As for DL, obviously they're not on here due to the JV and coming reciprocal benefits. But the JV rollout is frustratingly slow. I'm flying DL and WS on a WS ticket this week and they barely feel like competent codeshare partners (several schedule changes needing escalation to resolve, ongoing display errors within the PNRs on both sides, plus the usual limitations on seats and mileage earning).
