Video of TSA agent stealing iPad

Check out this video of a TSA agent being caught red-handed stealing an iPad:

While there are hundreds of cases of theft by TSA agents, you can’t beat how good of a job they did catching him.

  1. Can’t say I’m surprised. I always try to wait with my stuff until right before I go through the metal detector or the scanner, but I usually get a dirty look from the TSA people when I stand with my stuff.

  2. Glad they caught him. For those of us who have to get patted down as a matter of course, it often becomes a little harrowing as you sit and watch your things in the bins at the end of the x-ray machine. Sometimes it takes as long as 5 minutes before they notice and bring them to you. Once you are stuck in that little glass booth, there is nothing you can do but watch helplessly until one of the other agents notices. Thank goodness they caught this guy!

  3. I never take my ipad out of my carry-on luggage.

Every airport I have been through lately has said it can stay inside the carry-on. And, I bury it in between stuff so it’s not sitting on top.

I hope the TSA did more than just fire him.

  4. I put everything from my pockets in a zipped up compartment on my carry on bag. This keeps it all in one place, more secure, and I don’t have to put everything back in my pockets at once. I make sure I’m with my bag until it goes into the X-ray, and I’m almost always back to the conveyor before my bag/MBA come out.
And lost in this is that the rest of the TSA folks returned the iPad. Obviously that doesn’t forgive this guy, but I think the majority are good people.

  5. Funny. Sad funny, but funny.

Almost always travel with my wife so we stagger going through. i don’t put things through the machine until she’s on the other side to collect.

  6. Wow, this guy’s a real sharp one.

He denies he knows anything, he has the opportunity to go back into his home, AND THEN HE COME BACK OUT AND DISPLAYS THE IPAD FOR THE CAMERAS!

How about locking your door and telling the cameras to pound sand.

  7. I don’t know why, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that when he was inside, he and the wife discussed and they decided the brilliant plan would be to put it on her shoulders.

  8. I think people are most at risk when going through the full body scanner and they ask you to remove your wallet and put the wallet on that conveyor belt.

  9. @John, why would your wallet be anywhere else than zipped inside a pocket in one of your bags when you go through security?

  10. I was shocked at actually seeing video footage of this guy. Wow. Like View from the Wing always quotes “we were never in any danger because of these few bad apples!”

  11. The reporter caught a petty thief, but presents it as important investigative journalism. He lingers on this inept fool. Should have been a 30 second story and more resources given to the corrupt and powerful.

  12. The 400 fired were only the ones who were caught red-handed, not all the screeners ones who robbed passengers. No doubt that thousands remain employed waiting to steal your property.

If TSA was really concerned about theft and abuse, they would not ignore customer complaints and send form letters blaming the passengers when passengers are robbed. Instead, TSA recites same old lies and “highest standards” baloney after every incident and wait for the issue to blow over while allowing the problem to persist.

For people who travel once a month, that is 24 trips through security. At a one out of ten theft rate, as happened here, they would have their property stolen twice every year.

It is unacceptable for TSA or another other organization to remain unaccountable and treat those who pay for it with contempt.

TSA needs to be replaced with a responsible organization focused on protecting the public instead of preying on them.

  13. Wow, this is so idiotic that it makes me think this whole story is a fake, i mean how big of a dumbass do you have to be to style an ipad and not wipe the memory, and to bring it out for the cameras to see, and sign the release form for you face to be shown on tv?
