United gets into new codeshare agreement with Hawaiian

CHICAGO, May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — United Airlines customers may visit the Hawaiian Islands more easily this summer through a new codeshare agreement with Hawaiian Airlines, complementing United’s 18 flights daily between Hawaii and the mainland — more than any other carrier. Through the codeshare service on Hawaiian Airlines’ inter-island Hawaii flights, United’s Mileage Plus® members will also have the opportunity to accrue and redeem frequent flyer miles on the flights.

This is great news! United had a really good agreement with Aloha for a long time whereby one could burn 5,000 miles for an intra-Hawaii award, which is a deal that can’t be beat. While this article doesn’t specifically mention the cost, I’m hoping the deal stays the same. Considering that Hawaiian has a more modern fleet and is generally viewed as a better carrier than Aloha was, I’ll go ahead and add this to my “good news” list, which is pretty short nowadays.
