In general, I would say that the Amex Business Platinum Card is a business card that you get in the long run for the benefits that it offers, rather than for the return on spending that it directly offers.
It could make sense to spend money on the card if your business consistently makes $5,000+ purchases, other than that, there are better cards for everyday spending.
The card offers big benefits but also has a steep annual fee.
When it comes to accounting for the value of the card, I recommend considering the following:
- How much do you value the various credits?
- How much do you value the Marriott and Hilton Gold status?
- How much value will you get from Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts and the International Airline Program?
- How much do you value the incredible lounge access perks offered by the card?

The Ink Business Preferred Card is the single most well-rounded business credit card out there, in my opinion. The card offers the biggest sign-up bonus of any credit card, it offers incredible 3x points categories for common spending categories for businesses, and it offers amazing protection, ranging from car rental damage to cell phone protection.
While I’d say this card isn’t worth it for someone strictly looking for cash back, otherwise you simply can’t go wrong with this card, in my opinion.

The World of Hyatt Credit Card is exceptional. It’s a card I have, and also a card I spend at least $15,000 on per year.
The card is worth having even if you don’t plan on putting spending on it — you get an anniversary free night certificate you can use at a hotel that costs significantly more than the annual fee, you get complimentary Discoverist status, and you get five elite nights towards a higher status tier.
Beyond that it can be worth putting spending on the card, thanks to the unique bonus categories (4x points on Hyatt stays and 2x points on fitness and gyms), as well as the additional elite nights and second free night certificate.
The card is worth holding onto for the anniversary free night certificate and the five elite nights towards status annually, which more than justify the annual fee, not to mention the pathway to elite status based on your spending.

I love my Amex Platinum Card and find it well worth the annual fee. I think it can definitely be worth getting, though I also do think most people are using this card wrong. This isn’t a card you should be using for all of your credit card spending, but rather it’s a card you should get for the perks that it offers, as well as the 5x points on airfare.
To decide if you should get the card, take the $695 annual fee, subtract how much value you’d get out of the credits, and then consider how much more you value the other perks of the card, including the great lounge access benefit.
For a frequent traveler or anyone who buys international premium cabin tickets with any frequency, I think the card is well worth it.

The IHG Premier Card is a card that I highly recommend getting. Not because it makes sense to put a lot of spending on the card long term (especially with the recent devaluation of points), but because the anniversary free night certificate can be worth way more than the ongoing annual fee.
Add in the IHG Platinum status, fourth night free on award redemptions, Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check credit, and more, and this card is a no-brainer. Add in the great bonus at the moment, and the card is even more valuable.
I know some people are opposed to having a lot of credit cards, but often it can make sense to have some cards just for the perks they offer, even if they’re not worth spending much money on. This is one of those cards.
