Hey, Where Did The Application Go?!

In the interest of full disclosure, OMAAT earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card. Update: This offer for the Chase Sapphire Reserve® is expired. Learn more about the current offers here.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card became available last weekand I’ve written about it extensively. The card has a big 100,000 point sign-up bonus upon completing minimum spend, though the card is so much more than that.

A couple of days ago I wrote a post speculating how long the 100,000 point bonus would be around. My guess was that it would be around for somewhere between two and five months, and that they’d give notice of any change in the offer. That was speculation on my part without any inside information.

While I’m not assuming the offer is dead, it is interesting to note that the Chase Sapphire Reserve application is no longer working. While the landing page is still there, when you click on the application link you get the following message:

Now, credit card websites have glitches all the time, so what does that mean for this offer?

  • Interestingly only the Chase Sapphire Reserve seems to have this message for applications, and not other Chase cards
  • Best I can tell, all links directing to the card have the same message
  • I imagine this card so far has been popular even beyond Chase’s wildest dreams, so perhaps they’ve exhausted their budget much faster than they were expecting
  • Perhaps they’re just so backed up on applications that they’re temporarily not taking any more, until they can get through the current backlog
  • Perhaps there’s an aspect of the application or card details they’re needing to change, so they temporarily took down the application
  • Perhaps it’s just a temporary tech glitch

The point of this post is to confirm that the application is indeed down (since several people have asked me), and we don’t yet know why that is. My speculation is that it’s just some sort of glitch, as I imagine Chase executives put a lot of thought into this card before launching it. Or who knows, maybe it has been exponentially more popular than they were expecting, and they’re having to reconsider. Only time well!

Once I know more I’ll be sure to update this post with information.

What do you think is going on with the application?

  1. who cares! go for the JPM Reserve card, which doesnt follow 5/24 and cases of non private banking / non private client people getting approved for the 100k.

  2. Guessing temporary glitch, however I have no doubt they modify the benefits of the card around the first anniversary of the card release. This benefits are way too lucrative to sustain

  3. Good thing I applied two days ago. Was instantly approved online with a ridiculous 30k credit line. I called to inquire about expedited shipping of the card as I am about to do a bunch of travel, however, the agent on the phone said due to the extremely high demand they’ve had for the card it would take the full 7-10 business days quoted to arrive.

  4. It’s working now..just tried. Googled CSR and went to the landing page. Was able to get to the tell me about yourself screen.

  5. Got approved two hours ago at a branch, so at least then the offer was still alive. Had to move around credit from my five existing Chase credit cards, which was fine. Waited until Sept. 1 until one of my credit cards dropped off so I didn’t violate 5/24. Told me at the branch that it was impossible to expedite since they ran out of Sapphire Reserve card stock, so 7-to-10 business days. Card is appearing online in my Chase account.

  6. No mention of 5/24, but terms includes the following:

“Chase cardmembers with a history of only using their current or prior Chase card for promotional pricing offers, are not eligible for a second Chase credit card with promotional pricing.”

  7. Applied in a branch today at noon and was approved. Card already visible online. Rep said the card has been wildly successful and they had a line out the door to apply for it when it first became available. Granted, this branch is in a mall downtown, near multiple office buildings full of high-income people, but still… Rep also said it’s been so popular that Chase has run out of the metal blanks, so they’ll send a regular plastic card at first, in 4-5 business days, and replace it in a few weeks/months.

  8. As i mentioned before…
Existing SP card holders have been denied the 100K…
Anyone else have the same experience ?

  9. When I called the reconsideration line (5/24 and asking to not count authorized user inquiries) they told me they have been seriously backlogged because of the demand on this card. My guess is they need to catch up. I have called back a couple times and my declined status as a pending reconsideration, is pending.

  10. This product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this credit card within the last 24 months.

Terms now simply reflect not eligible if you have had this card w/in 24 months!!!!

  11. There’s a serious typo in the $450 fee, am I the only one who got the $450 “membershit fee” instead of “membership fee”. Now that’s a ridiculous tech bug for such a company like Chase, Lol.

  12. Got approved at the branch right away on Friday and then received my card yesterday (Wednesday August 31st) via UPS. Called to confirm that I got it, they said they had to change packaging in order to rush it out to customer. So it is just in a basic envelope (no fancy package like Citi Prestige or other cards).
Too bad, the priority pass doesn’t include 2 guests or a spouse like the one comes with Citi Prestige.

  13. Chase 5/24 rule: After being denied for the CSR (I was at 5/24), I applied online for the CSP and was approved. I called the Chase reconsideration line to ask why I was approved for one but not the other and was told the 5/24 rule only applies to the following five Chase cards: Reserve, Freedom, Slate, Southwest, United. Hope this is helpful.

  14. @Jeremy I just read those T&Cs too, but doesn’t “this card” mean the CSR not the CSP? (The rest of the terms seem to apply to the CSR only.) They may be upgrading the T&Cs for the future, so people don’t apply, cancel then re-apply at a later date for a new bonus. What do you think?

  15. @pez – agree that this card would specifically mean the CSR no CSP. Might not be significant at all but that combined w/ the 5/24 not being listed just seemed peculiar to me

  16. I applied for the card and got an email saying they wanted to get some more information and would get back to me. After 2 weeks I called them and they said I had a lot of credit (30K) on my Sapphire Preferred card and if I agreed to take off 15K of credit, they would issue my Reserve with a 15K credit. After a few months I could then request a rise in my credit line and I said OK and they will issue the card.

  17. Does anyone know of the Chase Sapphire Reserve application link not working at the moment? I know there are only a couple days for the bonus left and the site might be overloaded. When I get to the last page of the application and hit submit, it simply flashes a notice for a brief second “Verifying your Information” which I had to take a photo of with my phone to actually catch what it said. After the notice disappears, I’m back on the last page of the application with the submit button again. Any updates on this?
