Personal Spend on Small Business Cards

Personal Spend on Small Business Cards

A lot of us can technically qualify for small business cards by selling on eBay, doing photography, etc. Are there any rules against using a small business card for personal expenses? If your business only makes $1000 per year and the card has a $3000 spend requirement can you use the card for your personal expenses?

Well, the T&C do say that it’s only for business expenses but I’ve never had any issues with any expenses getting rejected but I don’t spend a whole lot on my business cards.

I did check the Ink Business Preferred T&C and you’re right it does state that the card can only be used for business expenses. But it seems to be more of an ethics issue as most people don’t have an issue with expenses being questioned. I even found a TPG post where he seemed to support putting all spending on a business card whether it’s personal or business.

But… if you list your business’ revenue at $1,000 and the sign up bonus is for $5000 spend, doesn’t it look fishy? Maybe they don’t look at it that closely.

I listed my business’ income as $0 – which was the truth – and have yet to be questioned.

It doesnt look fishy. Lets say someone paid you $6000 for your product/service. In order to provide the product/service you had to spend $5000, which you charged on the card. Your net income is $1000. That’s reasonable.
