Did you purchase a ticket in business class or is it an award ticket? I believe it can be done online thru SkyPass

It was a award ticket purchased with Delta miles

In your case, KE Business is the best you can get. Delta does not allow international first class awards at all. And you cannot use miles from a different program to upgrade an award ticket issued by another carrier.
Normally, you upgrade awards using the same program you booked the award with, regardless of the airline you are flying.
