Can I use Delta e-gift cards to pay for the cost of transferring some points from one Skymiles account to another one? I looked at the relevant page on delta.com, but could not find the specific info.
I have a $50 e-gift card, and need 7,000 points to get up to a balance of 160,000 for a r/t business class ticket. Purchasing miles would be a lot more expensive (Rate per mile: $0.035). Transferring would be cheaper (7,000x$0.01= $70 + $30 fee).
Is there ever a promotion on Delta.com regarding transfering/buying points?
Finally: can I use Delta gift cards to pay for the taxes and fees on an award ticket?

-I just attempted to buy it some miles with Delta and they did not allow a gift card to be put in, only a credit card, so short answer would be no.
-Just remember that when transferring miles you are paying to move the miles someone has already owned, if I were you I would buy 8,000 for $280 (or you could send $280 of FTD flowers to someone for Valentines day and get 7,000 miles though the shopping portal)
-If you have a month or two I would try to sign up for a Delta Credit card and earn miles that way

Occasionally Delta does have offers, I would search your email for them as I often delete without thinking.

You Should be able to use your Gift Card to pay the taxes and fees on an award ticket.

Yes, I was thinking about the 2 options you described (created the Skymiles shopping account – already had the dining account). However, with FTD the problem is that it directly deposits into your Delta account AFTER about 6 weeks (it does not go through the shopping portal account, so it does NOT appear within a few days of completing the purchase). Since I would need the miles earlier, either I just transfer that amount, or wait in case a deal pops up. But thanks again for your input.
