Which Credit Card Should I Signup?

Which Credit Card Should I Signup?

Hi,

I will need to spend around $6K for the next month or so. Like to get your input on which credit card to signup with a great signup bonus. I’m thinking: Citi ThankYou Premier Card and Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.I did consider also signing up for Citi Prestige Card, but I don’t need all those benefits. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

I always ask my friends, what do you want to use the points for?
Like – Domestic Coach/ Domestic International. Or International Business etc.
If you can jot down the intended use, it makes suggesting more applicable to your needs.
Honestly, I think there are a ton of very good cards and suggesting 1 or 2 is tough unless the needs are known.

I agree with @PhatMiles. Plus, what cards do you already have?

I plan to use the points for International (Asia) First class travel. From DFW to Seoul, Korea. Sometime next year or 2017. I have couple of AX with 150,000 points.

If international first class, I would say your best bet to Seoul (ICN) is Korean Air. Ben has numerous posts on redeeming for Korean, accruing Korean miles, and booking for them as well.
I would say, you should get the Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) and the SPG Personal.
With those 2, you will have to spend 7K though!
After the 7K Spend you will end up with at least 82000 points.
How 82K?
After meeting the minimum spend reqs,
CSP: 40+4 = 44K
SPG: 30+3 = 33K
SPG Transfer Bonus: 5K

When transferring SPG, they give 5K bonus on every 20K transfer. Even if you transfer 30K directly, you will end up with 35K. But if you wait and transfer 40K, you will get 50K Korean Air Miles.
If you spend any of those on the bonus categories, you get 2X points which will be more.
With the 80K+ miles, you can score a one way Korean First to ICN.
Either you accrue more UR or SPG and get another 80K for a return on Korean again or use the MR from AX you have for a one way return. IDK much about MR redemption, but ANA & CX transfers look promising.

Since SPG & CSP are solid products, there is value in paying the annual fee for me. But everyone’s take is different. Do you agree?

I would also add an authorized user to the CSP. That is an easy 5k extra UR.

@Chase @Gaurav I agree with Gaurav. I forgot that part. So at least 87K.
