Venture or Amex Delta Gold SkyMiles
Update: now that Delta has devalued Sky miles with partners, I suppose this post is irrelevant. Maybe Venture miles and other flexible reward points are the way to go. But I’m still pissed at Delta, pulling out the punch bowl before guests arrive!
Original post:
I am only 3 years into reentering the credit radar after a 12 year absense. Although by some estimation still a thin profile, I’ve built up with perfect history to a FICO-8 770. The focus is aspirational international travel perhaps by late 2021. The only cards I have currently are Amex Delta Gold SkyMiles (w/80K miles and climbing) and Cap 1 Venture,
Most of the credit monitoring apps give me excellent approval odds for Chase Sapphire Preferred. I trust Experian’s app & their partnership to help the process. I’d like to get it this month while the 80K welcome bonus is still available. If approved, great. That will be 3 ways to approach the one transfer partner they have in common, Flying Blue AirFrance & KLM.
(I know the new reality of dynamic award is a challenge compared to my 1990s UAL world adventures, oh well, I have time)
Regardless, in case Chase is not in the picture, which card is better for accumulating miles towards KLM or AirFrance Venture or AMEX Delta Gold? I assume Delta is fine for domestic travel, & SkyMiles are better used with a Flying Blue partner internationally (especially for a YOLO Business class US to Europe to Asia/India excursion) I’m guessing I’ll be combining SkyMiles anyway even if I transfer Venture miles.
For now, is it
Venture’s transfer ratio vs. Delta’s SkyMiles?
(& if Chase points are in the picture, I’ll be happy to pile it on)
I’m also considering the latest AMEX Gold offer 60000/ $4000 over 6 months instead of CSP.
Fwiw,
Amex is offering me an “upgrade” from Delta Gold SkyMiles vto Platinum, but despite no hard inquiry, it’s few extra benefits for the $250 annual fee as an upgrade doesn’t seem enticing compared to the same fee for the new Amex Gold offer.
