UR Points Expiration

UR Points Expiration

  1. Woodrow Gold

So my wife and I have both applied for, was approved, met the minimum spend, and was awarded sign up bonuses for both CSP and CSR, totaling 320K UR points.

My question is this, if we close my wife’s CSP and CSR accounts, will those points have a countdown timer for expiration? If so, how long?

Because I am an AU on her accounts, can I transfer the points to my account prior to closing and do they still expire?

If they do expire, clearly I need to book a trip prior to self destruction. So I wait until next year’s due charge, cancel the account, and the timer starts? Thanks!!!

When you log into the UR site you will see your points stored according to the cards that earned them. However you can transfer between your own cards at any time (including the business cards you are considering). If you cancel your card the points in that account go away immediately I think but the simple solution is that you just transfer them to an active UR card account to prevent loss. No need to transfer out to a loyalty program before you need them. Even if you get rid of both your paid cards, you can always downgrade one or both of them to the Freedom/Freedom Unlimited to store your UR points.

There is a nice primer on UR transfers at http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2016/09/06/combine-ultimate-rewards-points/
