Sign-up bonus in American Express cards

Sign-up bonus in American Express cards

  1. Fabricio Souza New Member

Hi Ben. I got the 25,000 sign-up bonus on the AMEX Premier Rewards (applied in Feb 2016) and I’m wondering if I can still have the 40,000 bonus in case I’m also approved for The Platinum. I’ve read somewhere else AMEX doesn’t allow accumulation of sign-up bonuses. Thanks already.

    Welcome.

No you are good for now, the rule you are thinking about is one sign up bonus per card type per life time.

This means that you can’t get the bonus for the Premier Rewards again, but you can get a sign up bonus for any other Amex you have not had before.

There are some exceptions to these rules, if the Premier Rewards or any other Amex that you have ever had has a higher sign up bonus in the future you should be able to earn the difference between the bonus you got in the past and the new higher bonus.

Also Amex might give out targeted offers to you for cards you have had in the past and you would be able to earn the sign up bonus again for these offers.

Given the new rules, it might also make sense to wait for a better offer on the Platinum card. The card has been known to be offered as high as 100k points.

im pretty sure i “upgraded” from the regular gold card to the PRG, possibly not getting a bonus. i cant get AMEX to get me a straight answer about whether i received a bonus for the PRG or not. Id apply for the card again if i knew i could get the bonus for sure
