Question about credit score
This is not a travel related question but I thought it would be relevant as it’s all about credit cards and credit score which Lucky and the team are very knowledgeable about. If not OK please delete. With the current situation, I had a friend who called all his credit card companies and said he would have difficulty paying and they agreed to delay his payment and waive interest and late fees. Does anyone know anything about that and would it affect your credit score?
Obviously it would be beneficial to be able to hoard cash for now until the uncertainty passes, and basically get a short term interest free loan from the credit card company, but I would be wary of the effect on my credit score.
Welcome @HG Pilot – While the credit card company may do this as a one-time exception I wouldn’t count on them doing it for long. Yes, there are extenuating circumstances and this thing may drag on long enough that they’ll basically have to continue to be generous or folks will get in a deep hole. But credit card interest rates are general higher than any other kind of loan so I’d certainly want to at least make partial payments to try to get rid of that debt asap. As to the effect it will have on his credit score, I don’t think one late payment is going to make a difference but, of course, you don’t want that to be a habit.
