Is SPG sign-up a one time bonus only

Is SPG sign-up a one time bonus only

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hello,

I recently signed up for the 30K SPG bonus with Amex. When I called last month Amex told me the bonus miles will be credited on my Jan statement. I noticed the miles had not posted and called today. I was now told that because I received the sign-up bonus in 2009, I am not eligible for the current bonus. Is this true they only give a one-time bonus per card? Of course, if I had known, I would have put my effort towards another card. I did receive a targeted offer however.

All American Express cards are once-per-lifetime-only nowadays 🙁

Does that include business version of Amex cards also? Seen a lot of people claim it’s just the personal Amex cards that are affected?

Rhodesie, it’s true that you can only receive the bonus once for personal cards. However, I would check the fine print of your targeted offer. If there is no language there about previous card ownership then you have a very strong case to get the points. Even if there is such language I think you have a strong argument to make (politely!) that since AmEx offered you this promotion they should honor the offer. If neither of these work I would try to go back and check what sign up offer you got in 2009. If the 30k offer is larger than that offer then I believe AmEx policy is to give you the difference in value.

Thank you everyone for the clarification and suggestions.

I will check the fine print on the offer Gaurav!

If nothing works I might look at anything that CPFB or the BBB offers. These things really annoy me. It’s fine for a company to have a stated policy about not giving offers twice but if their IT system knows not to give you the bonus it should also know not to send out targeted offers. Seems/feels like a bait and switch to me.
