Is Citi trying to box out potential Chase Sapphire Reserve applicants?

Is Citi trying to box out potential Chase Sapphire Reserve applicants?

So I just got both an e-mail and snail mail in connection with my Citi Prestige offering to up my line of credit. This struck me as odd, as my LOC is already fairly high and I don’t really come close to fully utilizing it. It got me wondering why Citi was pushing for this, and it occurred to me that they might be trying to get folks to use up a hard pull so their Prestige customers might not be able to jump ship for the Sapphire Reserve as easily when it’s released. Am I on to something here or is my tinfoil hat a little too snug?

Revising credit lines is quite common. I had my credit line increased without even asking me and no hard pulls ever. Same thing happened on Barclays many times.
Linking this to the rumored Chase card’s approval is not at all the way to connect dots in my thought.
