Hi Lucky,
I have had the AMEX Hilton “base” (No Annual Fee) card for the last 6 years. I would like to get the Ascend card and the 125k welcome bonus. I am wondering if I can get the welcome bonus with this product, or if AMEX will just force me into an upgrade. I have an option to request upgrade when I look at my account. I am also a Delta Skymiles Gold card holder and they are offering me an upgrade to Platinum for an additional 25,000 mile welcome bonus and major spend. I have no current offfer for the Ascend

What should I do?:
Just apply for the new card and hope they don’t claw back the points
Call Customer Service and see what they say
Request the upgrade

Update: I chatted with Amex while paying my bill. They told me Ascend is a separate product and I could apply and get the bonus. I was approved almost instantly.
