Getting CSR + Freedom Unlimited, have CSP

Getting CSR + Freedom Unlimited, have CSP

  1. Matthew Herbst New Member

With the downgrades to the protections on the Citi Prestige card (my current primary card) I’m looking at getting the CSR. However, I already have the CSP, and I know that I cannot apply for the CSR while I have the CSR. I would like to apply directly for the CSR to get the signup bonus. I have some UR points, but not too many.

What’s my best course of action?

I’ve been thinking about product changing the CSP to the Freedom Unlimited, and then applying for the CSR. Is that the best way to go? What will happen to any UR points I have for the brief period where I have no UR card?

hi @Matthew Herbst, with the downgrade route you will never not have a UR card. Your points will stay associated with your card. You can downgrade to the Freedom Unlimited or Freedom (even a second if you already have it). Then apply for the CSR as planned.

@Gaurav but what about the time between when I downgrade to the Freedom Unlimited and am applying to the CSR?

You’ll still have your UR points, you just won’t be able to transfer them to airlines at that time. Each UR card you own has its own pool of UR points. If you want to transfer points earned on the CFU to airlines, you have to transfer the points earned on the CFU to the CSR first and then to airlines. They make it very easy to do that within the UR portal.

Keep in mind you’ll need to transfer your CSR URs to your CFU UR account BEFORE you cancel your CSR…

With the downgrade to the CSR there shouldn’t be anything canceled… Am I missing something?

My bad. Having been away from this question for a few days I was thinking there was an existing CFU and he was canceling the CSR. D’oh!
