Citi’s replacement cards = new account?

Citi’s replacement cards = new account?

    Hi Ben,

I recently had to get a new Citi Prestige because of fraudulent activity. To my surprise, my new Prestige card is listed as a new account, and when I called to ask Citi about this, they confirmed that my old account (not just the old card) was canceled due to fraud.

This has me thinking/worried about their 24-month rule. I truly don’t feel like this new card should preclude me from earning a signup bonus on a different Thank You card after 24 months have expired. I don’t think this new card (account) should reset the 24-month clock. Do you have any insight here?

    Thanks!

Where is it listed as a new account? On your credit report, or in Citi’s systems?

I’ve never heard of them canceling and resetting the account entirely — has anyone else?
