Citi Prestige Annual Rebate on spend?
Hi,
I just returned from Citibank to do an in-branch application for the Citi Prestige. Everything went fine, and as a citigold checking account holder, I was told I qualified for the reduced annual fee ($350). While waiting for processing, I looked through the printout he gave me, mostly to see if it mentioned the citigold requirement, which it did not. It just listed $350 for primary and $50 for AU.
On page 4/4 of the terms printout, I saw a chart that listed citigold checking 15%. I read the fine print and it mentioned an annual (per account open date) 15% bonus thank you points for purchases made on the card.
That was a perk I wasn’t aware of. Is this new? Or had I just overlooked it before? A quick google search hasn’t brought anything up.
Thanks!
-Alex
Alex I haven’t heard of this before. Did you discuss this with the branch staff? It pays to read the fine print. I once upgraded my AmEx Gold to Platinum and the paperwork said (an error I think) that the annual fee would be 0. I called them to ask about this and they honored it.
The exact wording is:
“For those with a Citi banking relationship, a relationship bonus will be a fixed percentage based on a percentage of purchases made on your Citi Prestige Card during that membership year (the membership year begins that date you becae a Citi Prestige Cardmember.) You will earn a relationship bonus based on your Citigold, Citi Private Bank, Global Client or employee status as follows:”
(Simple 2×4 table)
Citigold – 15%
Global Client – 15%
Employees in a special offer – 15%
Citi Private Bank – 25%
Everything before and after that paragraph pertains to unrelated matters. Any idea what the interpretation of the above is?

Seems pretty clear. I would look forward to a year end bonus!
Any easy way to meet the requirement to waive the checking fee?
AFAIK it has some pretty high $50k and $100k requirements to waive the $30 monthly fee.
I’m thinking my best hope is that when I downgrade it somehow still recognizes my downgraded basic account as its older citigold status? a la citi prestige annual fee.
