Citi 5% cashback at pharmacies & $500 gift cards

Citi 5% cashback at pharmacies & $500 gift cards

So the Citi Dividend card is offering 5% cash back for purchases at drug stores during the 2nd quarter – https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/credit-cards-citi/citi.action?ID=dividend-quarterly-offer

Now, most pharmacies (duane reade, rite aid, etc) have $500 Visa gift card, with a $4.95 activation fee. So, using this Citibank credit card offer you can earn $20 with each Visa $500 gift card.

The offer starts in 2 weeks, and I’m considering stocking up on some of those $500 gift cards. The terms and conditions don’t seem to disallow gift card purchases. I just wanted to get the OMAT views on this one – will this work?

Don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t. The Hilton Amex cards get the 5x points bonus at those places when purchasing gift cards. Might be a good idea to throw in a candy bar or something else so you don’t end up with a bunch of $504.95 charges.
