Best CC for engagement ring?
Hi All,
I am taking the big leap and will be proposing once I get the ring! I have remaining balance of $9,000 that I owe to the jeweler and don’t have to pay it until the ring is complete (a couple weeks). I currently have Chase Sapphire and since I have time was thinking about getting 2 cards to maximize any bonuses. Any suggestions?
Welcome to OMAAT and congrats!
If you have any kind of business, I’d consider a Chase Ink business card to boost some points. Otherwise, it’ll be worth looking into Amex cards and/or hotel cards. I’d assume that you’d want to use points and miles for your honeymoon, and that’d help.
Definitely get two cards since it sounds like the jeweler will allow you to split the remaining balance. I would try for cards with flexible currencies that work over a lot of programs if your future honeymoon plans aren’t set. If you a plan in mind, let us know and maybe we could suggest specific cards. Congratulations!

Congratulations! The Chase Freedom Unlimited gives 3x points for your first 20K in spending. $0 annual fee, and you can transfer the points to your Chase sapphire reserve. Also, 0% interest for 15 months, in case you need some flexibility with the repayment.

That’s a decent option in case financing is required (in which case I’d suggest reevaluating the purchase) but opening a couple of new cards would net 50-100k points as opposed to 27k with the FU.
