AX Plat on welcome offer… what next?

AX Plat on welcome offer… what next?

    Hello folks,

A few weeks ago I signed up for an AX Platinum and currently trying to spend $5,000 on this card. I see a lot of awesome bonus offers for new users from Chase and even Delta AMEX, and I was wondering if I should sign up for these cards now, later, or never. $550 annual fee is pretty steep (although I do get it back in benefits) and I definitely will charge my big spending on travel on AMEX for x5 bonus, and also some big upcoming spending just to spend $5,000. Is it worth it to get another card (say, like Sapphire Preferred) for me? Which card would you recommend?

Also, do you want to commit to one transferable “currency” (Amex MRs) or add a second (Chase URs)? Or focus on one airline’s miles (Delta)?

FWIW, I was (still am) a long-time Amex Gold cardholder, which is great for groceries, dining, and non-AA travel (use Barclay’s for AA travel). When I started a business about 12 months ago I added the Amex Biz Platinum, and earned the bonus. I also added the Amex Blue for Business. All great for different reasons in my opinion.

I had an old (really old) Chase card which went through numerous iterations, but wound up becoming a Freedom Unlimited last year. That prompted me to add the Chase Ink Business Preferred to get the bonus. I still haven’t decided how to use the URs, as I build them up. I think I like the Amex MRs better, but I get the impression that Lucky likes the URs a bit more.
