AMEX Platinum 50K Points for $5K spend
Hello Lucky,
As a Gold card member, I just received an invite to apply to the Platinum AMEX card. Terms are 50K membership reward points afrer charging $5K to card within 3 months of membership.
Question – is this deal better than the 40K points/$3K spend as currently advertised on AMEX’s website?
Thanks –

Hello Lucky,
As as AMEX Gold card member (~17-18 months), I’ve just been offered an email invite to apply for Platinum for 50K MR points for $5K spend within 3 months.
Is this a better deal than the currently company’s advertised 40K for $3K spend on its website? Could this invite be negotiated via phone? How significant are the MR points? I’m a newbie to this…
Thanks.

Yes it’s better.
Required that you can meet the 5K spend requirement and pay it down on the first billing cycle, if you have problems to meet 5K in 3 months consider buying gift card for thing/store you will buy/buy in later in the year.
10K point is not enough if you can’t pay down the extra 2K right away
Look at this post by Frequentmiler, it contains a link to an up to date Google spreadsheet where you can find where points can be transferred.

As you can see Amex MR points is a good flexible program with many transfer partners.
What do you mean by negotiated? Try to get an even higher bonus than 50K? Or lower spend requirement?

Lower spend requirement.
@Thom I suppose you can try but I’ve never heard of a company negotiating down. Also, as @PhatMiles recommended in another thread, unless you need the card I might hold off for a little while to see if the 100k offer comes around sometime soon (you can only get sign up bonuses once on AmEx personal cards).
Thanks Gaurav.
