Possible to combine points from 2 different credit cards to book travel?

Possible to combine points from 2 different credit cards to book travel?

    Hi Lucky,

I have 60,000+ points on the Chase Sapphire Visa card and am considering applying for the AA Citi Platinum Select Mastercard that offers 50,000 bonus miles for spending $3,000 in first 3 months. Would I be able to apply the points obtained on both cards towards a ticket or tickets on an AA or partner fight?

    Hi Nancy,
Since the Ultimate Rewards points you’ve earned via the Sapphire Preferred card do not transfer to AA, you won’t be able exactly combine the points. But you do have a couple of options depending on how you’re planning to spend the points.

Depending on how much your flight is, you could just book directly through the UR portal. You’d only get about 1 cent per point in value but you would earn miles for the flight.

You could also transfer the URs to one of their airline partners like British Airways or United. That way you could fly one way on AA miles and the other using BA or UA miles.

Perhaps if you told us a little more about how you’d like to use the points we can make more specific suggestions.

@MidSouth Skier have the Chase redemption rates changed? I always thought you could get 1.25c for bookings through the portal using points?

@Gaurav – you may be right. I didn’t look up the rate, I just knew it wasn’t optimal.

    Agreed 🙂
