Marriott hotel certificate extra adult/child charge

Marriott hotel certificate extra adult/child charge

Hello, after so much speculation about the Marriott hotel and air certificates, I went ahead and transferred over 100k SPG points and got a Cat. 6 certificate with 120k Alaska miles. I booked the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. The reservation I made for 3 adults states I will be charged $95/night for the 3rd adult. It also states “children may be exempted” from this charge. Hmm. Any advice or experience on this charge and avoiding it.? I haven’t called the hotel yet to ask, but am worried they’ll make a note on my reservation. The 3rd person is my daughter, recently turned 18. I’ve also got a 15-year-old son I will bring, all 4 in the same room. Thanks!

I booked 4 adults earlier this summer on Marriott points at a Renaissance in Canada. Technically any more than 2 people per room, would be charged $30/person per night. With 4 people in the room, I decided to only pay the extra person fee for the third and wing it on the 4th. They never said anything at check-in and no fees were added at check-out!

Just one data point, but hope that helps.
