Booking 1 week trip for parents

Booking 1 week trip for parents

1. Phoebe

Hello everyone,

I am trying to give my parents a surprise anniversary trip to Sydney. They live in Taiwan so will be flying out of TPE.

I want to give them the best experience possible (that I can afford anyway…) so I am thinking of the following:

Flights:
Singapore Airlines roundtrip
TPE–>SIN (Business)
SIN–>SYD (A380 Suite)

255K Pts needed from SIN to SYD
Transfer 42K from Chase
Transfer 140K from Citi
Transfer 76K from SPG
(math is not exact but you get the gist…)

Hotel:
6 nights in Park Hyatt Sydney (City Harbour View) with breakdown below:
2 free nights from my Chase Hyatt signup bonus
4 award nights

120000 Pts needed
Transfer 60K from Chase
I have 60K from Hyatt

My questions are:
1. Can I book this whole trip just for my parents (without me present since I will be in the US)? This question goes for both the airline and the hotel.

2. Can my parents take advantage of my Hyatt Diamond benefit if I am not there?
– Will they be able to have complimentary breakfast?
– Are they eligible for upgrades to a better room since the award rooms are City Harbour and I really really want them to have a Opera room?

3. I was unable to find mix cabin award flights on SingaporeAir website and believe I will need to call for this booking. Would TPESIN points required be quoted within the 255K?

It’s kind of hard to find information online regarding booking trip without oneself so I am coming here for help ๐Ÿ™‚

As always, thank you so much for your insights and expertise!!!

@Phoebe First of all I am happy that you are planning for a super duper surprise trip for your parents. This is so nice and parents deserve this. Hands down!

For your questions:

1. Can I book this whole trip just for my parents (without me present since I will be in the US)? This question goes for both the airline and the hotel.

YES! In your Kris Flyer account you can add redemption nominees under “My Profile”. You can have only 5 redemption nominees at any given time and there is a $30 fee for redemption nominee change after that.

2. Can my parents take advantage of my Hyatt Diamond benefit if I am not there?
– Will they be able to have complimentary breakfast?
– Are they eligible for upgrades to a better room since the award rooms are City Harbour and I really really want them to have a Opera room?

Yes for the breakfast and NO for the upgrade.

Should be very helpful in this aspect and Hyatt officially is allowing the breakfast thing. For the upgrade, if you email the hotel after booking you may have a chance, I am not sure.

I am not sure at this moment. I will have to look more to answer this. Hope someone else will answer. Like @MidSouth Skier @No Name @Gaurav

For mixed cabin itineraries you have to pay the rate of the highest cabin for the whole ticket. So for a mixed J and F ticket you have to pay the F rate for the whole ticket.

Hello @PhatMiles and @Mike,

Thanks so much for the input!! I think that answers pretty much all of my questions and I will definitely call in after booking the hotel for my parents ๐Ÿ™‚ It would be such a great experience for them and thank you for making it a step closer for me!

Next up – getting them the visa and currency without them knowing….hmmm….

YW!
For currency exchange consider BOA. It sounds to me that is the best option. If you call them they will arrange fir branch pickup or delivery as well.
