Marriott’s co-brand portfolio includes cards issued by both American Express and Chase. If you’ve been considering one of these cards, we’re seeing some excellent new limited time bonuses on the co-branded Amex cards.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant increased bonus

Through May 12, 2021, the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card is offering an improved welcome bonus:

  • Earn 125,000 Bonvoy bonus points after spending $5,000 within the first three months
  • Earn $200 back in statement credits on eligible purchases made at U.S. restaurants within the first six months

There are a variety of reasons to get this $450 annual fee (Rates & Fees) card, which is the most premium Marriott card there is. I’d say the annual fee is easy to justify based on the following three benefits alone:

  • A $300 annual Marriott travel credit
  • An annual free night certificate worth up to 50,000 Bonvoy points
  • 15 elite nights towards Bonvoy status annually
  • Complimentary Gold status

I’ve used a free night certificate from the card at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota

That travel credit is good as cash towards a Marriott stay, since it can be applied towards virtually anything on a Marriott folio. I consider that to be worth face value, more or less. That means the card really “costs” $150 per year, by my math, and I think the free night certificate that can be used at a property costing up to 50,000 points justifies that.

The ability to earn Marriott elite nights with credit cards also makes it significantly easier to earn Bonvoy Platinum status — if you get both of these cards then you get 30 elite nights towards status annually, which is huge.

Marriott Bonvoy Business increased bonus

Through May 12, 2021, the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card is offering an improved welcome bonus:

  • Earn 100,000 Bonvoy bonus points after spending $5,000 within the first three months
  • Earn $150 back in statement credits on eligible purchases within the first three months

There are a variety of reasons to get this $125 annual fee (Rates & Fees) business card, which is the only co-branded Marriott business card. Those reasons include the following:

  • An annual free night certificate worth up to 35,000 Bonvoy points
  • 15 elite nights towards Bonvoy status annually
  • Complimentary Silver status

Having this card makes it easier to earn Marriott Bonvoy status

To me the free night certificate is worth more than the $125 annual fee, and then the Marriott elite nights are the icing on the cake.

Bottom line

For a limited time both the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant and Marriott Bonvoy Business are offering increased welcome bonuses that could be well worth it, as you earn both points and a statement credit.

If you don’t have either of these cards, I’d highly recommend them. Personally I have both of these cards, and have gotten outsized value with them year-after-year. Between the two cards I get 30 elite nights towards Marriott Bonvoy status annually, and also get two free night certificates that I consistently redeem at expensive hotels.

  1. @ Nathan — They didn’t, I just didn’t highlight it. Thanks for pointing that out, went ahead and added that to post.

  3. Does having had the SPG Business card in the past exclude you from getting the bonus on this biz card?

  4. Canadian bonvey business card doesn’t get the extra 15 night credit if you have the consumer one already, which sucks…hopefully it can match the US card benefits soon.

  5. When does the 15 elite nights credit show up in your Bonvoy accont–after the card is issued or after 1 years?

  6. @ Sure Thing — You get it the year you open the card, and in any subsequent calendar year. So if you get it now you still get 15 elite nights for 2021.
