It’s no secret by now that Amex Offers can save you a ton of money. At the pace I’m going, I’m getting more cash back than the annual fees I’m paying for most of my American Express cards.

For example, here are some “easy” savings I’ve picked up on over the past year:

Anyway, if you’re willing to get a bit creative, there’s an Amex Offer right now from which can save you 12.5% on the purchase of gift cards from many companies, including American Airlines and Hyatt.

To access this offer, simply log into your online Amex account and scroll to the bottom of your card summary page, where you’ll see a section titled “Amex Offers & Benefits.”

There are often dozens of offers available at a time, though not everyone is going to find all of them useful. And for that matter, different accounts seem to show different offers.

Through this targeted Amex Offer, you can receive $25 back when you spend $200+ online at by December 31, 2015.

In my case, I had several cards which were eligible for the offer, including the following:

The great news is that sells tons of gift cards from all kinds of retailers, from clothing stores to restaurants. However, perhaps most relevant to us is that they sell American Airlines and Hyatt e-gift cards at face value.

This means you could buy $200 in gift cards and then receive $25 back as a statement credit with American Express. Not bad for what’s at most a couple of minutes of work, assuming you’d spend money with one of the retailers anyway.

Here are the terms of the promotion:

Enrollment limited. Offer only valid online at and Qualifying purchases totaling at least $200 must be made by no later than 12/31/15 to redeem offer. Offer not valid on purchases made at Offer only available in the US and its outlying territories. Offer subject to Newegg’s shipping policies and restrictions. Must add offer to eligible American Express® Card and use same Card to redeem. Only US-issued American Express Cards are eligible for this offer. Limit 1 statement credit per American Express Card across all American Express offer channels. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/31/15, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase(s). Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase(s) from the merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase(s) have been provided/shipped by the merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase(s) is/are returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you will not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. POID: BXCW:0001

Bottom line

I love Amex Offers, as they’ve saved me a ton of money. This is yet another promotion which will save me money, as I can always use American and Hyatt gift cards.

Do you plan on buying American or Hyatt (or any other) gift cards to take advantage of this Amex Offer?

  1. Ben:

Can Hyatt gift cards be used at Hyatt properties outside of the U.S. as partial payment (along with a credit card for the remainder)? Or are they only good in the U.S.?

  2. Same discount as at at 10% for a $250 Hyatt eCert- but good nevertheless, thanks!

Thanks for using your Amex Offer at NEWEGG.COM. Look out for a $25.00 statement credit, which will automatically be applied to your statement if your purchase meets the offer terms.

  3. This is a PUBLIC Amex Offer. Not Targeted. Everyone with an Amex card can participate until enrollment is reached.

  4. Have any of you gotten the $10 small biz offer on your SPG Business amex card? I got it on my personal SPG card but not Business.

  5. newegg will only allow you to purchase ONE $100 american airlines giftcard in a single transaction. will 2 separate transactions totaling at least $200 still trigger the $25 statement credit? or does the $200 have to be spent in 1 single transaction? thanks

  6. But the T&Cs say “Get a one-time $25 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $200 in one or more transactions online at and/or by 12/31/2015. See terms for exclusions/details.”

So couldn’t you buy a $100 AA gift card in 2 separate transactions and still qualify?

  7. Has anyone tried the Sheraton offer by buying a gift-card from the front desk without a stay? My next Sheraton stay is for new-years eve and the offer ends on 12/31 so my checkout day will just miss the end date and I’m looking for alternatives.
