In mid-June we saw American Express and Delta roll out some fantastic limited time welcome bonuses on their co-brand card portfolio. This is a heads up that these offers all end today, so if you’re interested you’ll want to apply in the coming hours.

While Delta SkyMiles is far from my favorite mileage currency, I appreciate that miles in the program have a “floor” value, based on all the ways there are to redeem SkyMiles for one cent each towards Delta purchases. That potentially makes these bonuses pretty rewarding, given how much travel they could get you.

Delta Amex limited time bonuses

There are limited time bonuses on Delta Amex cards, which are valid for applications through today (Wednesday, July 28, 2021). These are among the best offers we’ve seen on these cards, and some bonuses include redeemable miles, elite miles, and even statement credits.

Let’s go through the offers that are available.

Delta Gold Amex: 70K miles + $200 statement credit

The Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express Card is offering a two-part welcome bonus, including:

  • 70,000 bonus SkyMiles after spending $2,000 within the first three months
  • $200 statement credit after making a Delta purchase within the first three months

The card has a $99 annual fee that’s waived for the first 12 months (Rates & Fees).

The Gold Delta Amex offers perks like a first checked bag free, priority boarding, savings on inflight purchases, and more.

Delta Platinum Amex: 90K miles + $200 statement credit

The Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card is also offering a two-part welcome bonus, including:

  • 90,000 SkyMiles after spending $3,000 within the first three months
  • $200 statement credit after making a Delta purchase within the first three months

The card has a $250 annual fee (Rates & Fees).

The Platinum Delta Amex offers perks like an annual companion certificate, the ability to earn status through credit card spending, a Global Entry credit, a first checked bag free, priority boarding, savings on inflight purchases, and more.

Delta Reserve Amex: 80K miles + 20K MQMs + $200 statement credit

The Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card is offering a three-part welcome bonus, including:

  • 80,000 SkyMiles after spending $5,000 within the first three months
  • 20,000 Medallion Qualifying Miles after spending $5,000 within the first three months
  • $200 statement credit after making a Delta purchase within the first three months

The card has a $550 annual fee (Rates & Fees).

The Reserve Delta Amex offers perks like an annual companion certificate, access to Delta SkyClubs and American Express Centurion Lounges, two Delta SkyClub passes annually, the ability to earn status through credit card spending, a Global Entry credit, a first checked bag free, priority boarding, savings on inflight purchases, and more.

How many Delta Amex cards are you eligible for?

Each of these Delta American Express cards is considered a separate product, and you’re eligible for the bonus on each card once. This opens up a lot of opportunities, and means that a vast majority of people should be eligible for the bonuses on at least some of these cards.

Amex’s standard card application rules apply.

Which Delta Amex offer is best?

Which Delta Amex offer is best depends entirely on what you’re looking for and what your travel profile is like. As far as my general advice goes:

  • If you’re just a casual Delta flyer, it’s hard to go wrong with the big bonus and waived first year fee on the Delta Gold Card
  • For those who fly Delta a bit more often, the Delta Platinum Card is great, given the annual companion certificate
  • For the frequent Delta flyer who is going for status, the Delta Reserve Card is offering 20,000 bonus MQMs, which is potentially huge

Keep in mind that Delta’s “Pay With Miles” feature allows you to redeem your SkyMiles for at least one cent each towards the cost of a Delta ticket. That means 70,000-90,000 SkyMiles will get you a minimum of $700-900 worth of airfare, and that doesn’t even include the other aspects of these bonuses, including the statement credits.

Bottom line

Delta Amex cards are offering increased bonuses that are among the best we’ve seen. You can earn anywhere from 70,000 to 90,000 redeemable miles, and on top of that some cards are even offering elite miles and/or statement credits.

If there are any Delta Amex cards you haven’t had yet, I’d highly recommend applying with this promotion. And you’ll need to do so in the coming hours, because they’re about to be pulled.

Will you pick up a Delta Amex card with one of these bonuses?

I had the Gold for awhile and then downgraded to no AF Blue. Got offer to upgrade to Platinum for 50k and $200 credit. Not as good current Platinum offer, but took it. Upgrading it allows me to downgrade again to Blue 13 months or so after 50k bonus is awarded. To me it’s 50k Skymiles for $50 AF after adjusting for credit. I’ll take it.

If I’m at the Max charge limit, is it better to cancel an old one (more than 12 months) and then apply, or apply , get rejected and call the recon line?

Can I get the Gold w/ 70k for the first (no-fee) year, and then close it or downgrade to the Blue card? Will this make Amex claw back the 70k bonus?

Yes, but ensure it is 12 months AFTER the bonus was awarded and not after the account was opened. I did that a while. Actually wasn’t thinking of downgrade. Called and said wanted to close it and they got me to downgrade to Blue. Just got upgrade offer to Platinum per my other post. If I can utilize the companion ticket perk and save my deductible and more than I may keep it. Otherwise I...

Otherwise I can yet again downgrade to Blue 12 months plus after I reach the very easy spending requirement.

Book quick - everyone gets all excited about these huge sign on bonuses then gets all upset when airlines or hotels devalue their programs? Do you not see the relationship? It is like inflation - too many points chasing awards so of course the cost will go up

Waste of time. Delta sky miles are toilet paper. Waste of a credit pull , waste of spend.

My wife got 30k amex points referring me to the gold. I got a $200 delta credit and 70,000 miles. I'd say that's quite the haul for a card that doesn't have an annual fee the first year.
